Been into Aldi today and they have leccy blankets in, BEWARE they have a maximum on timer of 3hrs. Not much use for our purposes. Ours has 9hrs.
Correct lolI've got one of those kW 206 displays.....
Have you been watching mispronounced adventures... ... Lol.
I haven't fitted it yet though.
Yes 500 watt isn’t much, we have the 700w radiator too, it’s great but don’t think I’ll have the space to take it as an emergency heat source, fingers crossed the Eberspacher keeps purring away for a few weeks, it will probably be the fuel gelling if we do have issues, note to self-take a heat gun..We use a 1-2kW fan heater when on EHU. We also have a 700W mini oil filled radiator which we leave on all night and when we’re out. Speaking from experience, I don’t think a 500W heater is going to make much impression in Arctic temperatures. I’d consider something beefier personally.
I thought they used low temp diesel in those countries......We use a 1-2kW fan heater when on EHU. We also have a 700W mini oil filled radiator which we leave on all night and when we’re out. I put an old wine cork in mineGood idea, I’ve got a valve fitted under the sink (Pond pump diverter) and can toggle between the internal waste container or drain out under van, the pipe goes though gas drop out hole, but I think this pipe will gradually freeze up, I might get a rubber cap/bung to go over end of this external pipe.
-7 is our coldest camp overnight in the van so going to learn a lot of lessons on this tripView attachment 315211View attachment 315212
@JOG now behave….I put an old wine cork in mine
Make sure they drain the diesel filter holder in case there is any moisture (water) in there.Van is going for a service next week and will check coolant/washer fluid temp and change oil to the thinner grade VW use in colder climates
I choose my words carefully!
Watching this with much interest.Thought I’d start a thread for our winter Lapland trip up into Sweden and Finland.
I’m starting to get the van and various bits of kit ready, in no particular order, it’s going to be cold and snowy up there, that’s for sure.
Seen many of Alex’s videos…very informative if you are heading to the Artic and beyond.I've got one of those kW 206 displays.....

Unfortunately it’s not cheap, but a weeks full board in a hotel and garage costs will cost more if the van breaks down up there, it cost me 1400Watching this with much interest.
Out of interest how much did you pay for the Autoterm heater for the engine coolant….if you don’t mind me asking?
I order mine from EBay, was £40 at the time, you can buy cheaper but I wasn’t sure that aliexpress site was safe?Seen many of Alex’s videos…very informative if you are heading to the Artic and beyond.
I see Amazon do the KW 206 but almost double the price of other outlets….would that be the same version me thinks?
Yes iv seen the garages list the fuel temp spec on the pumps, it varies some could be say -20 or -25 or -30 etc, so if it gets really cold you need to be aware what fuel is in your tank, as Alex F once found out and his fuel lines froze up, I’ll probably leave engine running in -30 or head southI thought they used low temp diesel in those countries......
As in the UK derv WILL gell/freeze at those temps...so you need to fill up locally with their diesel, that has some additives that stop it gelling up?
One of these ? With a rifle for the polar bears?

Maybe the bears are getting smarter and the humans dumberAlthough I know nothing about Arctic exploration, I'd rather have the rifle in the truck where I could reach it, rather than have to fight a polar bear to get to it.
