Possible power steering problem

Steering has felt heavy at low speeds recently so sorted all the air in the tyres today. But at the same time orange warning light appeared on the dash.
Now the steering is sounding noisy and creaky. Fluid looks low so got some from Halfords - after the system couldn’t say what to use the helpful guy behind the counter googled and found an answer on this very forum :D So I hope MVCHF central hydraulic fluid is right!

I’ve also ordered a carista to arrive tomorrow so I have some sort of heads up before I try to find a garage I might trust. Any idea from anyone local to Aylesbury of a good garage? Van is just about due a service as well

Had a bit of a nightmare with power steering. A noticeable vibration especially at cold start in the morning when manouveeing and engine vibrations felt in steering wheel at idle. . Also had VW say it’s normal which seems to be a theme….even tho it wasn’t present for 3 years! Changed the pump, didn’t do anything to help maybe slightly better…noticed the high pressure hose had a weep from the crimp changed that and no difference. But reading on line the return line from the rack runs along the back of the sub frame. And I took a video and seen it vibrating/pulsating
at idle. So as a test I wrapped it in pipe insulation and the vibration was almost gone! Next step is to replace the return hose from rack. I’m hopeful I’ve found the issue. But worried it could be the rack as a final last resort. I have ramps so could get under the van and even squeezing the hose it felt very weak. Hoping when I change it it’s all resolved been a bit stressful.

Check around the gators for any excess fluid/drips on the steering rack.
One option is to put a pin p***k in them to see if there is fluid inside.
I had a similar issue last year and unfortunately the steering rack was goosed, fingers crossed it isn't that as it was an expensive repair.

If the fluid is looking low checked the lines for leaks, if fluid is getting out air could be getting in and that was the cause of a recent power steering thread:

Also in looking for that I found a thread that turned out to be the pump that sounds like similar symptoms to the ones you describe:
