One of the rear tie down/locking points on the pop top has come loose. What adhesive should I use to bond it to the underside of the roof ?

Surely that shouldn’t be glued, it should be fasteners through the roof.
Who installed that?

Simplysurfbus nr Bristol..

This is the second time its come undone.. I wonder how other HiLo/Horizon owners have their rear ones secured.

They need their arses kicked, that’s not just piss poor work it’s dangerous.
I agree, its a bit shoddy, but not dangerous.

In fact some people choose to have the rear fasteners deleted, or just dont bother using them, @Bav.

I thought they have been added due to the issues with the roofs lifting while underway?

No, thats at the rear of the roof. The lifting of the roof on the motorway was the Sport version. Thats why it was discontinued.

Yep, I only have the front tie-downs.

VTA assured me the rears weren't necessary. They said the scissor hinge was more than capable of keeping the rear of the roof in place and that some installers we're only fitting the rear tie-downs on a "belt and braces" basis. I've never had a problem with my roof lifting and I've never heard of a problem with a Hilo Sport roof lifting on the move - it was the ill-fated Hilo Surf roof that had that issue.

It's a real shame to see Hilo/Horizon are still having issues :(
We fitted these a long time ago but very glad we got away from it and moved to Skyline Roofs... service is so much better and no issues!

Hilo the company went bust. The guys at VTA bought the design rights from them and onward developed the design to produce the Horizon roof, which they manufacture, distribute and install. Whilst I wouldn't claim VTA's customer service is exemplary, they don't deserve you tarnishing them with the same brush as those charlatans that ran Hilo.

Ah, no, sorry, that’s entirely the opposite of what I meant. Dan at VTA is a very good guy and I genuinely believe he has the capability of turning the ‘Hilo’ around. VTA are a whole different company and are very good at what they do - we’ve worked with Dan and I recommend them.
What I meant was changing to Skyline from then HiLo meant we got a much better service and product. But we’ve not dealt with Horizon roofs. However, we did have these issues highlighted in this thread with the HiLo roofs.
I have no doubt that Dan and his team have massively improved the roofs - if anyone can do it, it’s them! They are very clever guys!

Yeah, Dan's a good guy, but my experience was that he could be difficult to get a response from sometimes. He wasn't around much when they were getting the Horizon business up & running, for instance - understandable, but nonetheless frustrating. However, he always did right by me once I got to speak to him.

BTW, unlike the Hilo Surf, the Hilo Sport is actually a vey good roof, it's just that it was time-consuming to install correctly. This enticed many installers to cut corners, leading to numerous issues, which eventually overwhelmed the original manufacturer (who weren't particularly good at customer service in the first place!).

Yes, we were more than aware of that with the HiLo sport. When we worked out profit margins taking into account how long it took us to fit, it worked out we were making about £240 profit, before paying wages. That’s the other reason we decided to move away from the HiLo, to do it well, you had to take at least 5 days to fit the roof. We were losing money as a company.

Haha - only just realised you're a convertor yourself. Seems I've been preaching to the choir.
