Hi all,

Started de-carpeting and de-paneling as a complete novice, and wondered.....

I presume ^ this is the sound deadening and insulation off the production line? I'll be able to insulate the lower cavities but no chance on the uppers as those panels with the insulation seem to have been glued into place - further pic below, but also presume this was off of prod line.
I do plan to pull this stuff out before adding my dodo deadening/insulation etc.

^ Black sealant or adhesive to bond the panels I guess.

The van has had full panel boarding, but presume this was the previous owner. I'll look to pick up a set of individual panels, which can each be carpeted :).

Cheers.

Thanks, CB - I presume you just sound deaden'd the top sections on your T6.1 too, given there's no space for any insulation with the panels as they are?
I have the T6 as mine is a 2017 model.

I used Dodo Deadn, followed by Dodo 6mm Thermo Liner over the top. I have done all areas of the van, aside from the cab area, which I plan on doing at some stage too.

I tell a lie, I haven’t done behind the small seat belt panels yet, but plan to do so when taking the belts out to replace those panels.

There won't have been any insulation off the production line, only vinyl butyl (the big silver rectangle) sound deadening to stop panel boom . (Two very different things).
Don't bother removing it, and to be honest, you'll not get much extra sound deadening benefits from adding 100% coverage on those small panels.
Yes, the black stuff is sealant/glue sticking the panels together. Yes, you can get 12mm closed cell insulation and some white loft insulation in the lower cavity. Depending on what panels you replace with, you might get some loft stuff in the top too, but likely just 12mm closed cell.

Thanks, TeeJay.

I will look to install additional insulation in the lower as you mention, but I've read it's preferred to replace the big panel with individual ply sections although I'm not 100% sure on the benefits of that, over carpeting the 1 large panel I already have and popping that back up.

Carpeting your metalwork separately to your panels allows you to remove just the panel for future. For example to access places to run electric cable. Smaller individual panels or one large is personal choice. A single piece of carpet over all of the metal and panels at the same time means the only way to access anything is by total carpet removal.
