Paint thickness guage

So this isn't relating to my van but my car, got some rust bubbles coming through the paintwork on my 8 year old car. Anyone recommend a paint thickness guage so I can check if it's been sprayed before? As trying to claim on Audi's 10 year corrosion warranty but it's proving difficult with my local dealer

I’ve used ultrasonic ones on ships hulls, certainly not cheap. If your local dealer isn’t helpful try another, without their backing I don’t think you’ll get anywhere.
I have a 22 year old A4, loads of dents and lumps broken off but zero rust. From the days before VW got their grubby hands on a quality auto company.

The dealer should be doing the check for you if they refuse then I’m sure you can contact Audi uk

If options above fail why not try a detailer. They would normally do quick trial for you and in the meantime run through checks for depth of paint etc... Needless to say I was told my van wouldn't rust! 750microns perhaps on some areas.... With the detailers tool they could also point out areas that were filled etc. What is standard paint, 250microns? Number and units may be totally off!

Well that's what I thought! I took the car there on Monday so they could inspect it. Dropped off at 8:30am, chased them at 4pm for them to tell me "Yeah we don't have the tool so can't measure the paint". Now they are saying I may have to travel to Bristol (I'm Swindon so not a great distance, but I've already wasted a day!) to get it checked by a approved repair shop. Just a shambles really

Second what @ChrisBell said. A good detailer will always measure paint thickness before paint correction and can go round a car/van
measuring paint thickness in seconds. The variance between factory and repair is huge so quick to see what panels/ areas are affected.

Thanks guys, I'll have a look tomorrow for a few detailers round my area!
