Ovano vs Ply Guys U Shaped

I have the Ovano XL fitted to my SWB Kombi T6, which was already fitted when I got the van. Great bit of kit which I have used a lot for easy access to storage when travelling, shopping, etc. I have yet to use it as a bed, but do want that functionality for the odd overnight or weekend at shows, etc.

I would like to retain the slide out storage aspect, plus be able to convert into a bed, but would also like to be able to sit and chill in the back with the tailgate open. I don’t mind if that means removing some/all of the rear seats and adding extra bits, for the odd overnighter, in order to get a lower seating position in the back.

I am thinking of getting The Ply Guys to suggest a combination which gives me this added versatility, as their stuff looks amazing and I would already like their roof panels.

Has anyone got any experience of The Ply Guys stuff, preferably having seen or used the Ovano to compare?

I am intrigued by what the build quality is like and whether there are any rattles or creaks for their stuff.

Thinking of selling the Ovano to fund part of the new build, so interested in what the Ovano XL might sell for too.

Cheers guys.

Have you seen Cymru Camper Furniture? They are in Ammanford so you could see it in person before buying.

The ovano set up is a great bit of kit and sales well on the 2nd hand market.
I sold mine last year for £1000 but seen them sale for more but I needed it gone quick. I’m currently pondering on getting another one as I did like it but sold the van and didn’t have another to fit it straight into. 🙁

That’s useful, thank you.

Going to get some prices worked out for alternative setup before deciding on whether to make the switch. 👍🏽

I have seen their stuff on Instagram but was put off by them not responding to my emails on two occasions so haven’t pursued them since.
I’ve got the Cymru twin bench style in my T6.1 that is tweaked to my requirements. I’m really pleased with the product.
In my experience you’ll get the odd squeak or rattle from all the ‘ply style’ storage. You just have to then add the odd extra screw or brace which I did with mine and it’s rattle free and solid.

I’d pop along to speak to them as they are really friendly. TBF I found phone better than email. I think the product is good value.

I know what you mean though about first impressions. Perversely I had bad ‘first contact’ with the Ply Guys as when I spoke to them about ‘tweaking’ there standard set up to suit me (as per their website they do “custom”), they told me they couldn’t do it and weren’t interested. So go figure. Hence I went with the Cymru lads.

Just my own experience. 👍

Thanks @Vinyl1210, much appreciated.

It’s funny how strong first impressions are. I have zero experience with the Cymru guys, so am not rubbishing them in the slightest, it just hasn’t inspired me to try a third time so far.

I will get my head straight on exactly what I need and perhaps try calling them instead. That’s after I do the same with The Ply Guys, so I have a price comparison.

Take a look at these, I have 1 and am more than happy with it. Yes it does creak a little, but nothing which bothers me.
A few pics of mine set up, hope it is of some use helping you make up your mind.
If you ever make your way to Brighton direction, you're welcome to have a look at mine.

Im of the same mindset. When I was looking for contacts to assist with my van build there were some very well known suppliers I couldnt reach, despite trying more than once by phone or email. And I remember being gutted that I wasnt taking my van to them. But thats it for me, Move on.

Sorry for the slight hi-jack. As you were.
