Ottocast Mini 3.0 Ultra Cube

Really interested in these aswell. Let me know if you get one as Im looking for dimensions for it, specifically the distance from top of metal usb to top of cube. I've only 7mm clearance and want to check if it will fit before I purchase. I have a really small area in Skoda Octavia for it to fit

OK for a T6 or an aftermarket stereo with standard USB connectors
T6.1 only has USB C so would need an adapter to use this which slightly defeats the point of the ultra compact design

I have a slightly flaky adapter in my (transit custom) work van that i need to replace so i have just ordered one, will try it out and let you know
With shipping it came to £41.62

For a bit of testing i have also ordered a couple cheap chinese ones from Ali X to compare, will have a play with them when they arrive

Just to follow up on this i did buy the ottocast unit and a couple cheap aliexpress ones also
Im in the middle of trying them out and will report back soon but have to say so far the cheapy import ones work great with no major issues !!

Any update on the Ottocast?
Know they do a USB-C now so that adapter isn't required. However in the T6.1 it'll overhang the holder space. only fit one way I think.
£38 seems standard price now -

I’ve done a min of a week of each unit now in my work van (transit custom) at I can find barely any noticeable difference between the three units, I have photos of them all so will post in the next day or two so everyone can see the exact units I tried but the outcome for me is buy the cheapest units you can because they work just the same !

They are all the same size, they all run hot ish at times, they are all easy to setup and connect, they all do what they say in the tin
The only factor than needs consideration is the orientation and position of the USB connector in terms of the vehicle they are to be used in, coincidentally in the transit the Otto cast is the only one that doesn’t fit very well as I use it in the front dash port and it fouls the 12v socket adjacent to the USB slot

I will take some photos and add all the details very soon and show exactly what I mean, unfortunately I dont have a T6 anymore to try out the positions in them but can prob access one if needs be, on a side note I have a cheapy USB-C one arriving imminently for my T6.1 so will see how that goes and report also

Looking forward to this as I was just about to pull the plug on the Ottocast as it came out recently in USB-C.

Thinking about functionality. If you have the Ottocast (or any other connected) in one USB-C what happens of you plug the phone into the other for charging on a long journey? Is there a conflict?

Just to add. The carlinkit does drop out occasionally so if i’m on a long journey I tend to use wired connection anyway.

I've just found the post after watching a video review of it on YouTube and googling the unit. Here is the review link

I was very tempted by the outcast mini but ended up taking a punt on a cheap eBay alternative. It does everything I expected the ottocast to do, so I'm happy with my £10 choice.

I have a T6 with the an RCD330 head unit (my OEM one failed so I had to replace with this). It has wired Android auto and CarPlay.

I am using a Pixel 7a phone with Android auto and it has successfully connected on every journey. My longest drive with it has been 1hr30 and no drop outs. It does get a little hot over time, but not to a level of any concern. I bought the USB A version and it also came with a USB C adapter in the box. On my head unit it does plug in upside down due to the port orientation, but that is just aesthetics.

This is the one I bought, but to be honest I think they are all the same Pardon our interruption...

Hope this helps, happy to answer any questions about it.

Bugger. I've just ordered the Ottocast usbC style1 variant, concerned about the longevity of the 6.1's usbC sockets, I won't have to mess with the lead any more when I get in the van.
There is a 5% voucher currently which makes it a little sweeter. OTTOSTART5.
Time will tell....

Post up what are your thoughts when it arrives.

It's arrived today, 15 days after ordering. Not had a chance to fiddle, MIL, a swb buggy accident, Morrisons carpark, local hospital and a fractured hip all came in to play today. Who'd have family... Friday job....

+1 for the cheep alternitive. I bought one off aliexepress a few weeks ago for my car a grand total of £3.25 and its doing a great job. in fact it connects every time, without any intervention from me (something that the wired android auto didnt always do, as i occasionally had to click 'connect' on the head unit). i wish i had got one years ago, as now i can charge my phone via quick charge as opposed to being stuck with the crappy head unit power that could barely keep battery as the same level whilst GPS is active. Cheep AliExpress 2 in 1 adaptor

So i held off my feedback for a bit as i have had a few annoying issues with my cheapy unit, i tried out a few different ones for a week each and all seemed ok but have now been using a cheapy one for a few weeks and its starting to get on my nerves !
Im not sure if the issue is with the unit or the phone or the van but its occasionally failing to connect, to be fair i am using it in my transit custom work van and the issue with these vans is that the usb socket powers up when you unlock the van so its likely a case that im in and out (range) the back of the van getting tools etc so i think im moving outof range and that upsets the unit when i get in the cab, and quick unplug and replug in the unit and all is well but its getting frustrating, i just switching back to the ottocast to see if it handles things any better
Not sure my gripe applies to transporters as dont think the unit powers up until the ignition goes on so would hopefully be ok ?

As an aside i also bought a cheapy usb c unit for my 6.1 and that doesnt work at all !
It powers up but when i try and connect to it just power cycles itself all the time and nothing else :(

Well, it works really well. Only a few days in but I've made calls and used it with my Sygic satnav. It connects when I jump in the van, no glitches or issues at all. It doesn't stop you using the cup holder in a 6.1, it 'overhangs' by 1mm.
Very pleased, with the exception of the delivery time.

What happens when you plug the phone into the other USB, for example on a long journey to use Waze (or similar)?

You want blood you do!! Didn't do that. Do you mean my phone in to the other port or someone else's phone? I better do it right next time!
