Hi Good morning,

Following on from the quotes I've had, I need (want) to have Metatrak fitted AND Ghost II immobiliser as seen on The Belmarsh package - Maximum security for your Transporter, California or Caddy | Dav-Tec

Has anyone fitted the Deadlock Pro+, or is it a waste of money...

I live in Aberystwyth and Metatrak provided Meta Trak S5 Deadlock PRO | GPS Tracker, OBD & Engine Immobiliser details...
They'll come to me and fit the Metatrak deadlock pro with 1 yrs subscription for £768.95 or £1,068.95 with 3 yrs subscription, but they don't fit Ghost II Immobiliser.

@Reedy_T6.1 had Safe N sound in Leeds fit Metatrak and ghost.

I've just checked and Safe and sound Leeds Car Trackers | Immobilisers & Alarms | Safe & Sound Vehicle Systems
They'll fit the Metatrak Deadlock Pro for £678.95 inc 1 yr subscription or £978.95 with 3 years subscription.
They'll fit the Autowatch Ghost Immobiliser 2 for £499.00,
So all inc 1 yrs subscription for £1177

The Ghost isn't Thatcham approved, is there another or just go with the Ghost with MetaTrak Deadline pro?
I'll be getting the Bearlock fitted too and if I'm away for any period of time, I'll stick on my wheel clamp and get one of theose silver steering wheel disclocks

Do these ever need servicing, go wrong etc?
Would you go for a local fitter of Metatrak S5 Deadlock Pro and Ghost II immobiliser or go with a nationwide fitting company?

Thanks again !

I booked with a nationwide MetaTrak fitter at first, fitting within 4 days supposedly, which suddenly turned into 3 weeks once they had my money ... found a local guy that could do it next day for about ⅔ the price.

Some of the factory fitted alarms are Thatcham - but don't know the grade.
You'll have to ask Pauly for your build sheet and it will be on that.

@mellow yellow , your title “Thatcham Security required by Insurance”: Not sure of the specifics of your individual circumstances or what particular model you have but in case it helps T6.1 VW Transporter Highlines are fitted with a Thatcham Approved Category 1 Alarm and Immobiliser as standard from the factory. Don’t know about other models.

I had a problem on my Toad Alarm many years ago and had to wait a week for the guy to come out as it was a Nationwide installer. Thank you, I think I'll go local.

I'll go back to insurance company to double check if it's still needed :)

T6 factory fitted alarm/immobiliser is Thatcham approved also.
When I had my van I went with a Ghost and a Disklok for the visual deterrent.
I also hid an Apple Airtag inside.

Okies, I pick up my van on Friday and have bought the diamond Disklok and will have the 'bear lock' fitted soon.

I've spoken to Dav-Tec and they've advised against having the Ghost Immobiliser fitted due to problems with having Metrak and Ghost installed and 3 different systems to work together and owners having problems with the Ghost i.e errors and not starting the van etc.

Given that its a 3.5hr journey there, I'd rather not having these problems, so question is what immobiliser to go for, as from reading on the forum, it's best to have layered security. It's an expensive van (to me), and I'd rather avoid a theft, than have to claim for one.

I will be booking in @Dav-Tec for the Metatrak Deadlock Pro and integrating with OEM alarm etc, but am stuck on what immobiliser to go for?

Any suggestions...or is the Metatrak pro enough with the Bearlock and dicsklok? 🤔🤔

The MetaTrak has an immobiliser as part of it. I didn't advise against ghost. Perhaps you misunderstood I advised against having both, Ghost has its place but it's not for everyone and can be problematic with new users.

If it helps, I have had ghost (just standard alarm) on current t6.1 for 3 yrs no issues. Except occasionally it doesn’t seem to disarm first time with the first try, but just switch off ignition and try again, so no personal issues with it.
My new van is worth more so they want a tracker and I got Chris to fit the MetaTrak deadlock pro. IMHO it’s probably not worth the ghost as well as the attraction for me with ghost was the fact that, even if they had keys, they wouldn’t be able to start the van unless they hunt it down quickly. I had initial concerns that this advantage is lost with the MetaTrak on its own, if fob is with the keys (likely!), but that’s the point of the deadlock. Long as you switch it on at night via the app, if they get the keys and fob they will lose time trying to start before they realise. Granted, they could come back for the code or phone (as with the ghost) but by then I’d know they were here due to house security and would have tooled up and called police. Layers are good but it’s all a balance vs convenience and cost I guess. My experience (lots of issues with my previous golf R!) is that costing them time and early warning are the most valuable security you can have. I have invested a lot more in early detection systems at home for that reason.

Sorry for delay @borat, I've been away visiting family and forgot to reply.

Thanks for your experience, you summed it all up same as Dav-Tec, and agree that the metatrek is probably good enough on uts own (electronics wise). Im going for the metatrek deadlock pro. I've got a disklok and will have a bearlock too. Then if im away for long, I have a bulldog wheelclamp from my T2 i can use too.

Had toyed with the idea of pedal lock but its an auto DSG, and the bearlock will lock it into gear on that score...

Same as you insurance said I had to have a tracker. That's all going to spend the pennies...Just a set of wheels now and im done for now I think 😆 lol
