OBDeleven and SOS restricted “workshop”

Hi everyone. I’ve read around a lot and I know this has been covered a lot. I’ve got the sos restricted workshop fault up. It came on after I had to jump start it last week.

Battery struggling all week so I had a new one fitted today by AA. The tech checked for fault codes and couldn’t clear it. It’s still on now, I thought it might go now the van battery was changed as also had a few other random faults like front collision warnings.

So, I was planning on getting the OBDeleven app. I
Already have a Bluetooth OBD reader, I’m hoping this will work with the app to save buying another.

So my question is this. With the app can I tell the vehicle it’s had a new back up battery if it hasn’t, in the hope the warning might go off?

My BMW had a smokier fault. It was the battery in the roof mount. The dealer wanted a fortune to replace it. I got a similar app and managed to code the warning out.

Was hoping to have the same kind of luck with this.

Hi everyone, just wanted to share a quick win regarding that annoying "SOS battery: see workshop" error I had on my T6.1 back in January. After a bit of digging, I found the SOS module uses its own backup battery (3G0915089) for emergencies, and while it’s not an MOT failure, that constant ping every time you turn the key is a total head-wrecker. I initially looked into a replacement, but the lead times at VW are massive right now and it usually requires coding anyway. I plugged in my OBDeleven and saw codes saying the battery had "failed," yet the live data showed it...

I should point out I was a recent victim too. Thankfully My mechanic is a wizard.
 
Well I saw somewhere if you hold the sos button down for 30 secs and then cancel it might help.

It didn’t. I couldn’t cancel it and I got through to a nice chap asking what service I required. I was so apologetic!

Yep I tried that too. I just gave up and got the battery replaced 😂
 
What battery did you replace? The main vehicle battery? I don’t even know where the back up battery is or I’ll try and change it
 
I had this and in the thread below towards the end is how to resolve it. You need to reset the battery history if your battery is not flat, or replace it and reset the history. There is a link to the ODB11 procedure. Maybe your reader can do it too.

Since using ODB11 to reset the sos battery history the fault has not returned. It is clear that if the battery is faulty then replacing it will only work if the history is reset.

I expect in my case that the battery wasn’t faulty and as discussed in other threads, it just stopped checking it properly and needed the history reset to get the software working again.

I would suggest if you have the fault resetting...
