I think from that my T28 will be fine on 102 XL load rated Nokian Weatherproof tyres for a winter trip through France, Spain and Germany based on what I've learned from this forum. It''ll be a day van conversion when complete but without all the cabinetry of a full camper so should not be too heavy. The tyres I've found will be going on a set of 16" nearly new steelies my converter has given me, I'm going to spray them white and give them some nice chrome centres.

My question is....these are not the 'C' marked van specific tyres which have a much higher load rating, am I right to think they will still be ok.

Nokian Weatherproof
215/65 R16 102 H XL
Will be fine
The "C" marking on tyres is "Commercial" or often "Crap"; essentially a tyre designed for the fleet market.
These tyres are primarly designed for longevity and general abuse; but often at the expense of all the other facets you might want from a tyre. The load rating on a C tyre should still be observed.
102 load rating should be fine for a T28, the XL means the tyre is designed for permanent high loading up to the 102 rating, as opposed to occasional.
It's always worth trip to a weigh bridge when you are in full running order, just to check you have got you load in the right area of the van. It's easy to overload the rear axel, whilst the overall gross weight is still below 2800kg.

Thanks, great answer and really informative, I'll get the tyres ordered.

mine are 109-107 and still seem weak on the hips .... I do not think that 102 is enough .... minimum 103 ...

Dug a little deeper and found that the tyre is on the recommended fitment list from the Nokian tyre finder on their website.

I'll post a new thread I think about powder coating or rattle can painting steel wheels.

You need 103 (875kg) for a T32 (its the rear axel maximum load that requires the 103 loading. For a T28 102 (850kg) is more than enough.
The Nokians mentions are designed for SUV's so in my experiance they work fine on vans.
I've got Nokians weatherproofs SUV on why car (volvo xc60); and my caravelle. I think they are a brilliant tyre, and in the snow last] winter, very very good; deep standing water; off road etc spot on. Mine have a higher loadings, but thats just because for my tyre size, it happens to be.
On my Caravelle they have now got 30K miles on them, and have loads of tread left yet. I normally change tyres when the tread gets to around 3mm, which I think will be at 40k-45k miles.

So in the end, after looking at all the journo reviews, owner reviews & ratings I went for the MICHELIN CrossClimate+ 102 XL V in 215/65/16, with a discount code they came to a few pennies over £400 from BlackCircles and include fitting at my home by a mobile fitter I've used before.

Role on winter trips to Europe.

You were lucky... Black circles refused to fit these to my T5 as they don't have the C for commercial letter. FFS
