New Wheels / Big Brakes

I’m looking to size down my wheels (currently on 20’s) and switch to some 17” swampers.

Sounds easy enough….

The issue I have is that when I bought the van it has a set of big brakes on it, and I’m concerned that if I go too small on the wheels they literally won’t fit.

Any tips on how I can identify/work out what I’m playing with in terms of options?

The easy route would be to go somewhere and ask, but I’m in the middle-of-nowhere in Cornwall, so trying here first.

Roast away.

You’re good for 17” VW wheels such as Devonports.
If you decide on VW wheels the current wheel bolts may not be suitable.

Thanks. Out of interest, how do you know that?! Every days a school day!

I was planning to put on 17” swampers
I recognise the calipers as 340mm VW OEM equipment. I’m referring to the wheel fit, the tyre fit will depend on the wheel arch clearance and any suspension modifications.

Thanks, appreciated.

Suspension is being upgraded at the same as new wheels 👌

If you ever decide to go back to smaller brakes to resolve your worries I'm more than happy to do a trade with my brake setup!

I have literally just fitted 17” Devonport’s on Wildpeak’s with those brakes. No issues at all. They do sit close to the calipers though.

Get a pair of wheel mounting studs otherwise the wheel paint will be damaged on the caliper when fitting and removing the wheels.
Tyre fitters did it carefully but might be a good idea once I am ready to paint the calipers or do any other work with front wheels off. 👍🏽

Why would anybody downgrade the brakes unless they had a 16” wheel fetish?
