Makede Head Unit

Hi all. My 2016 T6 head unit blew due to a fault with the screen. I need to replace and have found an aftermarket Makede unit for a really good price. It says it is VW T6 compatible but the plug wiring appears different. I am told it is a “quad lock” type plug. It has everything I need (apple car play etc) and most importantly suits my budget but have been warned of potential to damage other vehicle electronics, possibly because it is not a common brand (ie a cheaper import).
Has anyone had experience with Makede and can anyone with better knowledge than me advise on the potential to damage the other electronics on the van?

My screen died too, the normal Vw ghost finger. No idea what the unit is you’re looking at, but I went for an alpine halo 9.yes your original unit has a quad lock connector bit you may need to remove the original phone mic and install another that works with the new unit.

Do you have any pics of how the Halo 9 looks once fitted. I will eventually need to change my head unit out, as it plays silly buggers from time to time & the SOS keeps going off on pretty much every journey. I like the look of the Halo units, but the size (especially the Halo 11) is a bit of an issue for me.

I have installed a Mekede DuDu 7 and am super impressed with it. It is really fast in everything it does. When I ordered it, they gave me the correct CanBus and adapter for rear camera, and I also purchased one of their accessories, a TPMS system. I mainly bought it for Wireless CarPlay, and unlike other Android Head units, it connects 99.9% of the time within about two seconds. I would highly recommend one.

I have fitted so many of these now to 5.1, 6, Crafter, Caddy. They are great units for campers. I can offer a multitude of screen sizes, ram levels, and storage. I hold a few different variants in stock as they are my favourite pairing with Digidash conversions.

I am also doing quite a bit of relay work to enable a camping dash switch that can ensure the unit:

A: Only takes its main live from leisure side
B: Receives an ignition signal from the leisure side
C: Is removed from any Canbus or ignition live back feed (so the unit doesn't liven the vehicles body control module)
D: Optional amp or sub trigger stop (I've seen a few big subs they don't want for the Dudu7 11.5" floating camping TV lol.

The way I have my own 11.5" floating 12 GB ram, 512 storage is as above but I also have installed and can demo my 360 camera system which includes a 4 camera DVR capability feeding into a 2tb SSD stick (with the above button pressed and enough juice this records for over 2 weeks!) when I put Everest in reverse I see a birds eye top down view, reverse camera is optionally undistorted with dynamic lines. The customisation is beyond conventional cameras with the latest Sony camera technology the 662 units are seemingly flooded with light even in the really dark spots.

Although I have the double din floating 11.5 I also have OEM VW fit, 9.5 10.36, 11.5. I can modify the 11.5 double to fit a Crafter with a short cage if required. But that's a bit of an extra.

The wing mirror cameras can be the new blind spot system if you want to have them activate with indicators. Cameras come up with radars if that option is selected, but they don't just model a few lines around a generic vehicle view. They place virtually as angled panels in augmented reality to actually move with your video and change colour as they get closer!

I also have the front facing DVR camera with driver safety tracking. It monitors lane control, approach, vehicle departure etc. whilst recording in 2k with GPS etc. This has a full integrated menu with loads of options native to the Dudu7.

The Audio resolution and fidelity is outstanding, it is very capable of driving stock speakers on its own, My personal audio output is a straight optical fibre cable into the Gladen Sound Up kit which is maxed out on the sample rate it's recieving, @128hz, but the Dudu can carry on to 192hz if you have the kit.

Moving to my audio install, supplied by Chris at Dav-Tec thanks for all your guidance on making the right selection for me! I have triple insulated/Isolated my front doors for the 8" speakers, added the Gladen signature a pillar tweeters, and the passive drivers seat sub. All powered by the included and critically acclaimed Mosconi PICO 6 8 DSP. I cannot describe the step change this is from the Alpine kit for me. It was a joy to fit and with Chris's custom Mosconi calibrated audio configuration applied to the stock installation in my cali Ocean I'm blown away, I can't hear myself sing, I can feel the bass through my chest, and it's still crystal clear at full volume! Tick..

Coming over to the video capabilities, this is an exceptionally fast unit. The 7080 chip is lightening fast, feeding into a 2K screen Vs my old Halo 11's 720p it's night and day better, there is 3 x usb A outputs, and 1 USB C which is video capable. I am running a high specification USB C hub that then splits and mirrors the video output feeding both my rear projector system and front Digidash clocks. I can customise any app to allow it to have a small 'throw' icon at the top which overrides the screen mirror default and sends that app to my Digidash centre view and rear projector unit. I can even choose whether to retain the audio or send it with the video. Scenarios:

A: typical driving and I start navigating using Google maps I press this and have it in my dash, then let my passenger do what they do with the Dudu.

B: an external TV or rear screen (a driving capable rock solid mounted 1080p XGIMI HALO+ on a drop down ball joint in the wardrobe) In my case, you could choose a movie for them, and then spend it back, with or without audio. Or just leave it on the stereo and fade back.

C: press the dash relay in, liven up the unit without the ignition. It plays 4.1 and 5.1 DTS l! then you can watch it as a camping IPTV, using the unlimited data SIM optionally installed, or maybe use the projector screen as an external display thrown over from the Dudu, and use the head unit to monitor your victron smart shunt (as I sometimes do, whilst saving power by sleeping the Dudu display in between.

I have also got a Senheiser updated Omni directional mic running on this which is utilising the ceiling mic opening, I have customised 360 cameras with modified internals so my front camera hides in my VW badge, my rear is also a modified wing mirror camera and can barely be seen.

and this is where I'm happy to declare this one as a mic drop (not the Senheiser though, maybe just the stock one.. the best head unit available is subjective to the user. But this takes some beating, my Halo kit is in a cardboard box.

Halo 11 with front and rear DVR, in it's box on eBay as it's started going back in time unfortunately. Alpine fell asleep at the wheel, thanks for a spirited drive. But I've got my new track car for now!
