Lower Middle Dash Usb Ports

Can I assume the blank in this cubby hole just above the power is for additional USB ports, ones that can be used for the app connect and charging?

I already have 2 in the glove box, but have to run a cable out the glove box to this more convenient location, be nice to just have a cable in here if possible.

and any part numbers would be good if you have them so I can order from somewhere.

thanks in advance

Hi Martin
Mine is the same, all I did was to plug in a iPhone cable in the glove box, then poke it through the back of the glove box down through to the blank you are talking about,
The cable is just long enough to pull out and plug in my phone and hide it in the cubby hole.

You can add the extra usb socket but to integrate with the radio and have app connect etc requires a usb splitter box to be installed in the dash then you have to replace the existing socket and cable as well as buying the additional socket and cable then you have to twiddle a few wires and install a power supply for the splitter box so it’s not an easy job or a cheap one, over £200 in parts

I work in IT and make electronic things all the time (you should see my musical Tesla !) so adding additional power and a usb splitter isn't an issue. But I am I stickler for trying to use original parts were possible so they look neat and tidy.

Do you have any part numbers for the usb ports that should go in this cubby hole (x ashtray), and/or one of those explosion diagrams?

thanks

I wish the parts were cheaper to do this. OR VW never removed the option of the additional in the comfort dash!

Did @Pauly get you on this?

I've go the centre console and would like the app connect via the usb plus keep the original usb in the dash.

I've got the follow parts already but I know I have a few things missing
5Q0 035 726 - Where does this go?
6C0 035 249 - I think this goes in the section on the top of the dash (won't be fitting this if that is the case)
7E2 857 200 A 82V - won't be fitting this either
000 098 604 - Where does this go?
000 098 601 - Where does this go?

I need to obtain the part number for the module also?

Any help would be welcomed:thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

I had this issue and I ended up running a cable between the two locations using some rubber grommets, I reused the original cubby blank as well and just put a grommet in it.

I'm happy with the result. I had to remove the lower glovebox to do the cable routing but that wasn't too difficult, 7 or 8 star head screws and some wiggling from memory.

I bought a selection box of grommets from eBay.

Nice Job, looks neat enough, but I hate needing to drill anything this new if I can avoid it.

in regards to the parts location 'T6180',
5Q0 035 726 - this is in the upper glove box, see Nolans pics.
6C0 035 249 - is this the square usb port with the flip up face, I don't have one of these. but looks like this is what fits as a replacement for the blank in my picture above.
7E2 857 200 A 82V - No idea
000 098 604 - this is one of the cables to join up the usb port to the headunit is my guess.
000 098 601 - same thing, another cable.

I have no idea if another module is needed if you already have USB ports. I just need more usb ports as I only have one, and its in a stupid place.

@Nolan ..... at the risk of sounding totally technically ignorant ...... does leaving that cable permanently plugged into your USB/Power like that contribute to battery drain whilst parked up???

I can sometimes not use a vehicle for 2+ weeks, come back to it and the factory alarm alone has drained the battery to a level where you can't start the car. I've found Trackers on top of the alarm are the worst for this. Just want to be sure I don't do anything else that accelerates battery drain.

yep, that's the stuff shredder. I will have to pull the dash apart to see if I already have the splitter. dam it!
There wont be a splitter ,it is only there when there are two usb's fitted from the factory .
You will have one lead from the radio to the socket .

For 2 weeks yeh it could, youll have to use an online calculator and check the battery drainage with the total amps/watts you have plugged in.
alternitivly have a second battery with a low voltage cut off to protect the main battery. problem is if you have let you main battery drop below 10v for regularly for long periods it could be f****d

Thanks @Martin Stockwell .... I thought that was the case. Even if nothing is attached to the cable, just the fact it is plugged in is a power draw. As convenient as it is to have the cable ready to go, I'll have to avoid it myself.

Cheers

no no, cable plugged in wont drain the battery, having something attached will. but if its drained to the point of being flat too often it might need to be replaced. lead batteries don't like going beyond a certain low voltage as it starts to buckle the plates and they no longer store as much.

I've seen this with the 3 plugs, anyone know the difference from the one with 2 plugs?

Ahh ..... so, just leaving the cable plugged in (nothing attached) when parked up and locked is no draw at all ??

I know what you mean about batteries. The T6 battery is fine and not gone flat at all yet. I learnt the hard way in another car, so don't want to repeat it
