Hi all,

I have been receiving a fair number of enquiries as to how we are currently operating, so to try and inform as many people as possible, here's an update on how the Van Cave will be doing business throughout the remainder of the current national lockdown.

Workshop:
Closed until further notice. All affected customers have been notified and will be rescheduled once restrictions are eased. No new bookings can be made as we cannot guarantee when restrictions will be eased and work will be able to recommence. However, if you do want to book with us, let us know and we will add you to the list of customers to be scheduled in after restrictions are eased.

Direct Sales:
Wheels, wheel and tyre packages and Suspension kits can still be ordered, either for delivery, or for collection from the cave. Any collections will be COVID safe and contactless.

We are not an essential business and as such our workshop must remain closed until we are able to reopen.

We've got some exciting developments coming later this year, so bear with us and stay safe.

Cheers,

Chris.

What a bummer, sorry to here this Chris.
Keep me in mind with the gloss black mirror bits I’m after, definitely want you to do them.
This bloody COVID is doing my head in now, I just want to get my van to where I want it to be but that ain’t gonna happen while we are all in lockdown. Only positive gives me more time to save my pennies up.

I’ll still be quoting you for that Paul don’t worry. It also gives you more time to think of more ways to spend your money with me! I saw your post in another thread about easy to clean wheels, would you like me to PM you some ideas?

Chris if you could please. If I can buy local through you it would be good. I like the raceline gts so that would give you an idea of the sort of thing I have in mine.
Has to look shit hot and be easy to clean. Don’t want much do I

Have a look at the Diewe Cavo in this link Paul. Similar to the Raceline GTS. It’s available as silver, platinum (which is more a Matt gunmetal colour) or Matt black. All colour options are in stock in transporter fitment.

Also, to help with cleaning, for a little extra I can supply the wheels ceramic coated.

I would probably go for the ceramic coating anyway, had it on my Porsche. Is there any magic formula that stops them getting dirty, LOL. Not so keen on those wheels don’t like the parallel spokes the gts are more tapered.

OK, leave it with me and I'll see what else I can find that might fit the bill.

It is of course completely up to you how you run your business but all garage services are classed as essential businesses, if you supply & fit Wheels and Tyres and or have customers who have had shock absorbers etc fitted and you are party to the warranty then your services are needed to keep vans on the road and the economy turning. If social distancing, masks and sanitising station policies are in place there is absolutely no reason why your business cannot continue to trade.

Thanks for the positive and supportive comments, but I have read the regulations thoroughly and I've chosen to close because 1. It's morally the correct thing to do, and 2. The regulations state that I must do so.

Garages that are classified as primarily offering vehicle repairs, or MOT centres, are able to stay open, but any that don't fit that description or "have as their main activity repair services" are required to close. It would be impossible for me to prove or justify that the majority of my work, or the primary offering of my business, is repairs or remedial work on work I have previously undertaken. Almost 100% of the work that is done at my workshop is modifications to improve the aesthetic appearance or performance of a vehicle. That does not satisfy the criteria for staying open.

I'll have the workshop open again as soon as I can, but not until there's a change in the regulations that allow me to do so.

I applaud your morals, it just seems a shame that a clearly responsible business cannot trade whilst every corner shop selling cheap Cider and Crisps can.
