Load rating help

Thanks chaps agree with all you have said. I don’t want to make an enemy and admittedly perhaps I should have bee a bit more thorough in checking before I jumped in but I don’t see why I should be substantially out of pocket for there mistake. I’ve listed the wheels on Facebook as well saying they are not for transporter butwith the thought that if I can recover my costs or thereabouts in the next 48hrs then it’s all good. But if not then the tyres will come off on Saturday and I will look for a new set of wheels at campermart

Interestingly while trying to find T6 19” wheels even Transporter HQ list quite a few Rotiform 19” wheels and all under the T5/T6 category and they can be picked with the right load rated tyres. They do at least show the load rating at 1600lbs but the fact they can be bought as T6 wheels does make me wonder if there will be lots more vans out there with unsuitable wheels on….

THQ told me years back that KPS werent sufficiently load rated for our van .
Love KPS and seen many vans with them on over the years 😍

My guess is there are loads of vans driving around without correctly rated wheels. The vast majority of owners just wouldn’t have any idea about the specific load ratings so if a website (especially a specialist one like THQ) are selling them as compatible then they’ll end up on plenty of vans.

I bought my T32 T5 from a VW main dealer with under rated wheels on!

Many years ago now.

I’m sure someone on here bought a used van from a main dealer and found it had been mapped or had the DPF removed or something? There was definitely a problem and a thread or post about it.

I love that we can modify and personalise our vehicles but I can also see why some countries keep tabs on it in various ways (such as having to show TUV documents etc).
Our lack of any system puts buyers (and other road users) at risk with things like under rated wheels, missing emissions kit that may one day mean you fail an MOT, tunes that go too far and reduce reliability, headlights that can’t be adjusted enough to meet requirements etc etc

Yes, buyers must check what they are spending money on and no I don’t want added expenses but you’d hope when you go to a main dealer their 140 point check (or whatever) would at least pick up if the vehicle is technically road legal or not.
Food for thought.

Yeah my T5 had been mapped as well, dealer may not have known but the underrated wheels were inexcusable!

I did challenge them on it of course, they sent me a set of delivery mileage steels and paid to have the tyres swapped over so at least they accepted their mistake.

As to the map, I only found out when I took it for a Pendle remap. The chap (Martin) kept me waiting for half an hour while he finished the previous job, then stuck it on the Dyno, declared it perfect, gave me the printout and sent me on my way with no charge (as he'd kept me waiting). 181bhp. 2.5 130.

I was a little miffed as I wanted more power!

Means nothing - I've got an All In plan for my Octavia vRS. I took it to the dealer for the MOT, which it passed with advisories on the rear tyres - both starting to perish and one has a nail in.
Took it back for the service 4 months later, and with the same tyres fitted, and they didn't didn't even flag it or acknowledge my question when I asked why were the tyres alright now when they weren't before....?
Take a look a many of the modified T4s and see how many have Audi or Mercedes 5x112 car wheels on them.
GVW of T4 starts at 2400kg - it's not the same as trying to put an A4 wheel on a T6 T32

Yes I think pretty much all dealers are the same sadly. When I bought our Caravelle from VW a few months ago it was obvious they really hadn’t done the required and listed (available on line for everyone as well) checks and actions. I think it’s pretty standard to just wiper a rag through it, give it a service or at least a stamp and then shove it out and leave the customer to find any issues and bring it back for them. I can’t remember a time when I have bought approved used and actually been happy from day 1 (apart from a LR I got from a non main dealer once).

I bought my T6, A6 (and sold) and then (bought) vRS privately.
Once you get over the hurdle of handing over that much money on a private sale, they're the best cars that I've bought. I did my own checks and accepted that if anything was wrong, it was on me.
