Lining Question

Have read on here and elsewhere about lining, but still a little confused. If I want to line the interior metalwork and ply/hardboard panels, am I not going to need 2x the circumference of the back of the van in carpet - one lot around that sticks to the metal struts etc, with lots cut out, and then another lot around for the panels. The cutout parts will be smaller than the panel sizes, I assume, hence the need to do it with 2 lots.....

Or is there a more efficient way that I'm missing?!!

I can see hoot do it if I cover the panels - is this advised fora neater finish, or is the occasional access useful?
