Kitchen or not to kitchen..

As I have a blank canvas I'm considering running a rock n roll bed no kitchen and looking at pods/other ways possibly drop down trays from the barn doors to mount portable items too - potentially a fixed fridge but thats it so far - have many of you opted for 'no kitchen' ? new to the forum and vans so still finding my feet - will be doing much searching for ideas - the benefit of a bare shell now is I have plenty of options :)

I would recommend thinking about how you want to use the van for camping .i.e just a bed to get your head down, be able to get a brew on, how long your going away for. Everyone has different ideas about what they want out of their van. I've found that as the years have progressed and the offspring grown up leaving just two of us I've gradually thinned out out on interior fittings. Can't be bothered with fixed cookers and gas boxes ect. Don't even want a pop top nowadays. I'm happy with a bed, fridge, sink and some storage.

It all depends on your planned usage tbf. There’s a lot to be said for being able to stop and make a brew & a sandwich in the pouring rain, without having to start unpacking stuff or getting out of the van. One thing to consider is that without fixed cooking facilities and storage, you may not have done enough to qualify as a “Motor Caravan” in the eyes of the law, in which case you’re stuck with van speed limits.

We have a full width RIB bed (think carefully if you go with Rock and Roll as it limits usable space).
We have no kitchen as we don’t want to cook in the van, we do that outside or eat in the pub 😁.
We have a good electric setup (230ah leisure) and a good pop top.
Simple set up but works for our needs 😁

There’s a lot to be said for being able to make a brew….but, most people end up BBQing outside! I have a VW California Beach (no fitted kitchen) but have a removable/storable kitchen pod!

We often find the 'need' to make a cup 'o tea and that is why we have the induction hob. The sink is used as a storage bin but the tap is used to fill the kettle or coffee machine, supplied by a small 13 litre container under the sink.
All our cooking is done outside with Cadac gear, usually under an awning of some description, dependent on the pitch and weather.
