Insurance Policies For A Van To Camper Conversion

I’m with just kampers who were the only I could get to install during the conversion and while at the converters etc etc. After the conversion I contacted them to confirm the conversion was complete and to increase the insured value. Although the insured value went up almost double the price didn’t and the only to pay was the amendment fee of £30. They were also not interested in knowing of any cosmetic changes.

I am a bit concerned about whether I will get the full value should it be a complete loss but the policy is good for the first year during conversion (as long as nothing goes wrong!)

Ok just a round up,

I found Brent Acre to be the best and went with them. Also Just Kampers and Adrian Flux are basically the same thing :)

They charge you an admin fee when you go from panel van to campervan/motorhome after it's converted
£50 admin actual policy increase £30
Brentacre charge an £80 admin fee every renewal which seems excessive.

I know but they were still a good £400 cheaper than all the others. So I'm happy with that.
I think most give you a good deal in the first year I went with brentacre first year then they ramped it up adrian flux were loads cheaper plus I was keen to have guaranteed valuation as most wont tell you what they'd pay out on if write off will only say market value so that's anyone's guess

Im picking up my brand new T6.1 that's been converted and modified by a company. I have always had vans and insurance is usually approx £300 a year with Adrian Flux who I have been with for years. I got a quote today with Adrian Flux and it was £1500! I haven't paid that much for insurance for at least 23 years! Im going to give A-plan and Brentacre a try tomorrow.

Blimey, thats an outrageous quote. Maybe you’re in an area where they’ve had high claims? That always pushes premiums up, but that is taking the proverbial.

I've had quotes from comparison sites and they're all the same - its the modifications that are putting it up. I need to try a specialist that's used to this kind of thing.

I've used A-plan to do the donkey work for years. Mine covers all my mods and planned mods including remap, and still <£500

What mods have you got Kel? Must be something pretty unusual of Uber expensive to justify whacking up the premium that much

Back in 2017, Adrian Flux were the only people prepared to offer me a “van in conversion” policy, and believe me I tried everyone in the book. Even though I’d been driving for 30+ years claim free & had a clean license, the premium was still over £1k. I was paying around £250 at the time to insure a 18 month old Disco4 HSE. It was the lack of transferable NCB that was the problem, I was basically starting from scratch with a soon to be high value vehicle, my past record wasn’t relevant. 4 years down the line I’ve just paid Aplan around £330 to insure the same van fully converted with a value of £75k. Flux wanted circa £800 this year, there’s no rhyme nor reason.

@Salty Spuds was that a lack of transferrable NCB specifically for a camper, or because it was an extra vehicle policy? I.e. your existing NCB was being utilised on another insured vehicle

@Salty Spuds ...your existing NCB was being utilised on another insured vehicle

Yup. The van was an extra vehicle in addition to the 2 we already had, so we didn’t have a “spare” NCB to use. I’ve now disposed of one of the other vehicles so we are back down to 2, I’ve now got full NCB on the van, hence the better premium.

Hi, I have just gone with A Plan, really helpful young guy, Jack Streak, dealt with my query and then my insurance, would highly recommend as someone who has just had their T5 converted and knew nothing!
