How to improve ride comfort

I'm fairly new around here, and I've searched as best I can but can't seem to find an answer. I'm happy to be pointed towards the same information elsewhere!

I've had a T28 Kombi for a few years now, and it's always been on the firm side for my liking. With growing children (in weight!) and lugging around more stuff at the same time, it's really starting to bug me.

The current setup from the previous owner is:

H&R 50mm Lowering Kit
H&R Anti Roll Bars
20inch Alloys

I'm looking for the best solutions to increase my ride comfort. TBH, I don't care much about drive performance, I'd rather prioritise comfort, especially as I spend most of the time driving around lanes in Cornwall surfing/dropping kids somewhere.

Any suggestions on suspension options?

As an aside, I'm also considering smaller wheels with a higher profile, not full on swaper (although I do like the swamper look!).

Interested in gathering some thoughts on suspension changes possibly paired with a new wheel setup.

My T28 camper on B14s before swapping over to the thicker H&R ARBs was a pretty plush ride, undoubtedly the thicker ARBs kept it flat through the bends but realistically they removed that suppleness from the ride meaning the contents of the van can get shaken around (our wobbly old heads) while the camper maintains race speed through a corner.
These days we're on H&R coilovers as the Bilsteins killed a couple of springs but probably should have kept our flimsy stock ARBs and accepted less than racetrack cornering.

We can certainly help and guide you to the right suspension. Always happy for a chat if you want to DM your details.

If you are in Cornwall (as am I), I highly recommend Elite Performance in Redruth.

My t28 had standard suspension and 20” rims. It drove great, but for the places I drive and the the poor roads and beach car parks, it wasn’t working for me.

So I changed to TMP lift suspension with the light springs option (Chilli Jam Vans sell this) and 17” Fuel Zephys rims and all terrain Falken Wildpeak tyres.

The suspension is fully adjustable, I’m raised by 35mm from standard ride height.

I think it’s extremely comfy and works really well. My van is fully converted, so always carrying the weight. I have zero complaints about the setup. I’ve got standard t28 ARB’s which I may upgrade to t32 ARB’s but it’s by no means essential that I do.

There is no need to use anyone else other than Elite Automotive. They know their stuff.IMG_8680.jpeg
