Help Please! Specific Load Rating Question?

I’m currently selling my 20” Velare VLR07 alloy wheels and am a bit confused about the actual load rating? Before I took these wheels off my van, I looked on the Vanstyle website and on the Velare website itself to find out all the specifications of these wheels. Both websites have the load rating at 875kg per wheel and I can’t see that there is a lower load rating alternative? However, the stamp on my wheels is 850kg? I’d really appreciate any advice from you wheel specialists out there that could help to answer this question please?

@BognorMotors @ChrisR @Tourershine @Jayjmac.... These are in no particular order.... just members I know are well clued up on everything wheel related!

Cheers, Matt

My understanding is it's what's stamped on the wheel that is the definitive rating, not what it says on a website, because the stamp is where any official would be looking.

I've seen this before with conflicting ratings, but I'd be going with what the stamp says Matt.

Don't some wheel manufacturers occasionly reclass there wheels load rating? I'm sure i've read on this before. Maybe since your particular wheels where manufactured Velare have had them re classified, presumably to make available to the T32 market?

I also would go on whats stamped on the wheel, not the website

Thanks mate

Thanks @CarpyT6.... that’s what I was thinking.... maybe Velare have reclassified/upgraded the wheel to 875kg. I’m sure I’ve read on here recently.... there was a member selling some Judd wheels and Judd themselves confirmed that the load rating was higher than what he’d got!?

The Velares are indeed re-rated, so you ignore what's on there. Judd wheels are excartcly the same - Re-tested, but the wheels are stamped with the original loading.

I've asked for the weight certificate for you and will forward when I get it

Just for my understanding, are you saying ignore what's on the wheel or what's on the website? How can a wheel be re-rated? Surely it's put through rate tests and the outcome is the results of the testing, how do they then get to re-test the same wheels? This is for my education.

I personally can't see how @T6ARF wheels can now be re rated to 865 without actually retesting them, surely every wheel has to be tested.

Oli you are an absolute star, thank you very much.... that’s really good of you!

I think they get the wheels retested, and assuming the load rating increases then all wheels manufactured from a set date will have the new load rating. However, they still wear the old casting which states the lower rating. I think...

Yea probably, just seems a bit mad to me. o_O

If Velare themselves are willing and able to provide a retrospective certificate with a rating up to 875kg, then I assume that the load rating at the time of testing would have been more than sufficient. Either way, it’s good enough for me if it’s all above board and legitimate with Velare. Again, many thanks to Oli @BognorMotors.... a specialist in the industry and someone far more in the know than me!

Thanks. I’m still waiting for the official certification but being the weekend, it will be Monday now.

Hi all, I'm the pain with the T32 that's awaiting the certificate to press the button. @BognorMotors hi Oli, it's a when it arrives rather than an if it arrives, right? Cos if that's the case, I'll make a transfer to @T6ARF Matt sooner than later; my van keeps bugging me about them today..

Can’t remember exactly but my judds are the same. They say different on the wheel and I had it in writing from Judd at higher. I may just be telling blatant porkies here I’ll check later when I dust them off.

Like all things, that are produced: food and best by dates, bridges and weight limits, alloy wheels and load ratings, etc..

Things have a built in toleranceoften to protect the maker from being sued.

It doesn’t surprise me that wheels have been re rated, what does surprise me is if they are still being sold with the old markings and no reference to this.

Credit to Bognor for going out of their way re the certificate, but it would have been better had the manufacturer included it in the packaging?

Credit to Bognor indeed!

Morning all.
@BognorMotors I just wondered if you had any information back from the wheel manufact about the wheel load rating yet? Loving the look of these wheels, just want to be sure of the paperwork aspect when it comes to next years mot etc Thank you. Carl
