Help needed…. Which tool?

Hi All after spending several hours going around on circles looking at threads I thought it easier just to post something new! Which tool and software do I need?
I was thinking VCDS through Gendan but one thing I want to do is ‘flash’ the aux heater to make it a parking heater so I can turn it on via a telestart remote. I don’t think the VCDS can do that though?

I’ve seen Odis or VCP but no idea which is best or what I need based on me only working on my Caravelle and needing it for basic function changes/updated and fault finding alongside the heater flash?

Many thanks for any help.
Alternatively is there anyone in the North west who could ‘flash’ my heater for me?

Cheers
Andy

Obdeleven pro. Leave it in you van and works with your phone. Can do pretty much everything you need from it as you mentioned above.

This is interesting. Did you actually do / see anyone flashing a Webasto with OBDeleven? Which model of Van?

I am sure you can activate webasto with obdeleven if it is wired to any of the modules in the van that would control it/power it. Then changes to either adaptions or possibly some long coding to do the integration.

Never fitted one so can not comment but if vw offer it then it could 100% be doable.

That would be a good solution if it can actually flash the Webasto? Has anyone actually done it though with it as I think I have only found posts where it has been done with VCS/Odis and I have no experience at all with OBD11 Thansk very much for the suggestion and hopefully someone will confirm it can do it?

Did you read through this thread?

Not sure if it answers your question on the Webasto, but certainly gives info on using VCDS for Webasto settings.

Thanks @manfrotto I just had a proper read through that and it confirms I need VCP or ODIS-E for the flashing part. So now it’s a matter of where I can get that at a sensible price. Any ideas as there seems to be a magnitude of options from only a few pounds to 1000s!

Whatever you do , don't get a non-genuine copy - Unlikely to work properly and may cause issues. In the UK a genuine one is 225 pounds from Gentech fro a 3 VIN version.

Here in NZ I got mine from USP motorsports for US$199 which is the standard US price, but had the chepest shipping.

VCDS with HEX-V2 Enthusiast - USB Interface (3 VINs) - VCHV2_3 - 75016790

It doesn't come with any extras (case etc) which I didn't want anyway.
thanks @manfrotto i need a vcds and a VCP to be able to flash the heater as the VCDS can not do the software flash. I spoke to GenDan about it and they said it can’t do it which would align with what others have said on here by the looks. I was hoping I don’t have to buy both VCDS and VCP as that would make it a bloody expensive mod and ideally I would like one system that can do both the flash and coding which I think the VCP should be able to do?

Ah sorry - you are wanting VCP not VCDS. I am not familiar enough with VCP to help on that front sorry, but hopefully others on this forum can chime in.

Try vctool software.
A chap from America put me on to this.
I am very green when it comes to computers and coding, but slowly learning and can say this software is pretty powerful.
You can get free accounts to full fat yearly subscriptions for a few hundreds euros, or monthly subs.
You will get access to other t6.1 vans that have been uploaded to the sites servers and also download factory datasets for any module or request them to the admin team.
I am sure you could get the correct datasets for the webasto heater. Either by searching other t6.1 vans on the list or by requesting it.
Plus, it is cheaper than genuine odis e which is dealership level invite only I believe.

Will use it to code my factory led headlights to my t6.1

It was also able to code the factory led headlights to my previous caddy5 with sfd protection on bcm.

I'll have a look tonight amongst the vans to see if any on there have this heater fitted.

Thanks @DanW81 that looks very promising. The only snag is that although my Van is a 2020 it’s still a T6 and not a T6.1. I’m not sure if that will matter but I have dropped VC tool a query as well to see if they can do it. What adapter are you using to connect the laptop? Also can it be used for general diagnostics as well? Thanks for your help

No problem

I am certain it will do your t6 no problem.

The lead I use is a vnci 6154a

Andy, have managed to find a T6 on vctools with auxiliary heater.

Part number is pointing to webasto.

If you are good with computers, it may pay to subscribe to the system and request the stock datasets from this module.

There is also a couple of 2018 models on the back up server.

@DanW81 that is really useful thanks pal! I’m gonna hit the order tonight as it also looks like the most cost effective solution and I had a good play around on the free software last night. I can order just the ECU flasher module rather than a subscription for €78 which should give me exactly what I need.! Awesome!

That's great Andy. You sound like you understand the software better than me 😀.
Been using obdeleven for a few years so working from a laptop is quite alien to me. But slowly understanding the quirks of it 👍

It’s all pretty new to me, I’ve used laptops for EFI etc before but never to this level of detail for programming car systems. Half the problem is understanding the logic and language I think! Will be sure to let you know how I get on as well. Thanks again for your help
