Hair dryer recommendations

Hi All

My wife is looking for a hair dryer that can be used when not connected to EHU. There seem to be several options from 12v to battery powered cordless. Has anyone got any suggestions/recommendations on this?

With the likelihood of sites opening without facilities this summer this is more important than ever for my wife and daughter but could be useful when wild camping in normal times too.

And before anyone starts extracting the urine, this is a valid consumer advice query and so a good opportunity for me to show the wife that the forum is a useful resource for our campervan and not all members are grumpy old men trying to relive their youth as boy racers (that’s just me!) ;)

Cheers
Chris

So suggesting she sticks her wet head out the passenger window as you go for a spin wouldn't convince her that your time spent on forums is time well spent :)

Yeah that is exactly the sort of response I was hoping to avoid, although you did miss a trick by not suggesting I do donuts round the campsite!;)

What about buying a push bike and suggesting she rides it really quickly round the campsite ... I think this is a much more sensible suggestion as it's more environmentally friendly than driving the van and emitting CO2 (can't believe I didn't think of it sooner)

P.S. and while she's out on the bike she could pop into local shop and pick up essential supplies, it's a win win really!

Love the suggestions so far!

We have bought a 12v hairdryer (not for me, don't need it ). Bit weedy, OK for shortish hair or bobs, probably no good for long hair. Will find a reference later.

Many thanks @CAB for the first serious response, much appreciated!

@DXX, clippers I have covered (let’s just say I haven’t been overly affected by the closing of hairdressers!) but I don’t want her to copy my look!

I feel your pain, I’m not a big fan of campsites but we need to check in now and then for my lady to wash her hair.....takes forever.

Just a thought you could buy a battery pack ( use solar to power it) and use standard hairdryer on the 3 pin outlet...you then get a power supply for other toys. Led twinkle lights. ;)
@cgtmiles

I currently almost have more ways to power things than I have things to power! (Twinkling lights covered though, first purchase  )

A hair dryer typically uses about 1500 watts, with inefficiencies thats maybe 150 amps from your leisure battery into the inverter.
Fifteen minutes of that torture will kill your leisure battery! Do you have a Webasto?

Haha, yes we have a webasto heater, and an old dyson Hoover hose. Are you thinking a hair drier attachment?

She could put her head under the hand dryer at the local services? or use dry shampoo?

Plenty of 600W hairdryers that won't fry the battery..... If your running the engine and reducing the load on the invertor / leisure battery then it may be a solution... But tell her not to expect the preformance of a mains powered one...

Also plenty of festival type hair dryers that don't guzzle the power, but only blow cold air... Just remember that whatever you come up with it will always be your fault when things don't go to plan for her...

@cgtmiles ....if all else fails ....you get gas power’d curlers and straightnerd. Less than £20 Each from Superdrug ....;)
