found this product on Amazon which fits perfectly over the glass covers on both our hob and sink. (We ended up buying two - one for each)
Provides good protection, you can put hot pans on it and it is also a good drainer.
Rolls up to nothing when not needed although we now leave ours on permanently since dropping a can of beans on ours.
