Can anyone tell me why a vw 2ltr diesel van engine has double the volume of oil when compared to a car 2ltr unit?

Can anyone tell me why a vw 2ltr diesel van engine has double the volume of oil when compared to a car 2ltr unit?

I suspect because it’s a commercial vehicle running longer periods between servicing.

I’d agree but the service schedule (fixed or variable) is the same on the vans. I wondered if there was some mechanical reasoning around the difference between car and van.
