Gear linkage popped off at box

Hi guys,

One of my linkage cables popped off at the box whilst driving this week, leaving me with only 3rd and 4th - obviously the one that controls horizontal movement. I can pop it back on easy enough but it's only good for 500km or so before it pops off again.

What's the permanent fix here, is there a securing clip that's gone missing?

Cheers

Hi and welcome to a fellow Kiwi.

T5 with manual gearbox I assume?
I am not familiar with the linkages on a manual transmission, but I'm sure someone will be along shortly who is.

Assuming it's the ball stud part of the linkage, you can try one of these Gear Linkage Cable Repair Clip For Vivaro Trafic Vauxhall Hot~ Clamp /UK| | eBay UK It meant as a quick fix repair to get you home, but will be permanent.

If your in a breakdown service, you could call them as they should carry these parts on the van. I know the AA and RAC over here in UK do
Thanks very much for the link on that part mate. Do you know what the factory VW fix (to put it back to how it was) would be?

I just had this happen to my 2016 T6 6 speed, which I assume will use mostly the same parts as the OP.
It has been parked up for a couple of weeks but drove fine for a few miles. Then, when I tried to select reverse it would only go into 3rd or 4th.
I managed to limp home (the clutch smell is still lingering...) and after a quick look under the bonnet I found the culprit. The cable end/socket has popped off the pin on the gearbox.
Looking with a torch and mirror, there isn't any obvious wear on the pin and the locking groove appears in good condition. I assume it is the plastic parts in the cable end that are causing the problem but it went back together OK. The locking clip was quite positive and I cannot pull it off.
Time will tell how long it lasts as there must be wear for it to have come off in the first place.

More plastic crap to keep an eye on?! Mines 2016, what was the mileage?

Yep, I seem to be working my way through the list of T6 common faults. However, I could only find two posts about this happening...
I did have a new clutch, flywheel and slave cylinder fitted a few hundred miles ago. As the 'box came off, maybe the linkage wasn't quite locked in place afterwards?..

155 000 miles (Euro 5, 140, 2wd, LWB, T32)
