Knocking noise at 50mph

Whilst towing my 2000kg trailer on Sunday, I started hearing a knocking noise coming from the front. Symptoms are ;

- only occurs around 45-55mph (can't go faster with the trailer)
- Happens in all gears, but worse in 4th & 5th
- When I dip the clutch at 50mph, the engine revs freely with no noise.
- Knocking only happens with lots of throttle. I can turn the noise on and off with the accelerator pedal.

My van has large swamper tyres, 5 speed box and mapped to 170hp. Its on 106k and has had large wheels and mapped since 10k.

I'm thinking of swapping the driveshafts for new ones. Can anyone recommend where I can get good quality parts from? They are on back order at VW and £750each.

Any ideas on what else to check. ? Thanks

I'd advise caution before firing the parts cannon at it, your driveshafts might be the cause but that's a very expensive way to find out.
