Gas bottle vent best location.

Hi all. I have read a couple of threads on here where people are mentioning heat shields and gas vents.

My exhaust on my T6 is mid mounted. So no tailpipe to the back of the van. There is a heatshield there though on the rear offside side. Presumably standard figment at the VW factory?

Could I drill a vent hole down through the floor and expect any leaking gas to naturally dissipate out of the gas locker and to atmosphere above the best shield.

The opposite near side just had a plastic cover. Although I don’t know what it is covering?

Pictures attached.

@Ethan Andrews - did you ever get an answer to this? I've just had the heatshield off to take a look at possible locations for the drop vent in this rear corner. I wondered the same about the heatshield and whether it's OK to let the gas dissipate above the shield.

I have a drop vent in the corner which must come out behind this shield (I haven’t looked) as built by converter

Hi there.

I never got round to installing a vent. As I found in the height of summer last year. Despite having a Gaslow valve with two means of isolating the gas. And a third valve isolator before lighting the stove. The gas pressure was ridiculously high.

So I removed the gas stove. And converted to an Induction hob. And I have never looked back.
