Fuel Pump Fuse burning out

Hi

I have a 2016 TRANSPORTER T28 T-LINE TDI BMT (2016) on 120k miles. The van since i bought it 4 years ago has been faultless however a couple of weeks ago it broke down. Managed to get it back to my garage via the AA and they diagnosed a low pressure fuel pump failure. They replaced it with a Bosch fuel pump and all was going well until Friday when the van cut out again. I mkust have done about 15 miles in it since picking it up.The garage were great and came out to see if anything obvious. The fuse for the fuel pump was not just blown it had melted. Apparently it's a 20 amp fuse and the amp meter was reading 26 amps and rising.
The garage started looking at it again today and it's reading 9 amps again so they think it could be the bosch fuel pump and will replace with VW one.

Has anyone ever had anything similar to this?

Depending where the ammeter was placed it could be a short circuit / poor insulation. It doesn’t mean the consumer is defective just because the fuse blows.
I would think VW don’t manufacture these pumps and the likely OEM supplier / manufacturer is Bosch.

thanks for the reply.. the ammeter was placed in the fuse board after the blown fuse was taken out. Yes replacement pump was/is a Bosch.

Possibly a damaged wire, causing a high resistance short.... Running the pump but also loosing power to ground.

I'd try unplugging the pump and replacing the fuse to see if it draws power.

Tank out again.!!!

thank you... they used a Bosch pump, i don't think that's genuine but I've heard that it's very good
