Front assist unavailable calibration

Hi All,

My 68 plate shuttle has a "Front assist unavailable" message, think it may have been nudged in a supermarket carpark.

It's currently in a main dealer for a different warranty repair and they're quoting £150 to recalibrate. Is that reasonable? Is there a DIY solution?

Its a basic model so no cruise control so is the front assist just to keep me awake when driving??

Thanks in advance

Ben

Is there a DIY solution?
Yes, there is one.
  1. Get 2 straight edges of the same length and ideally a minimum of 6m (any material: wood, steel, aluminium etc.).
  2. Park on fairly level ground and position your steering wheel in the center as precisely as you can.
  3. Place both edges on the ground and get them to touch the outside of your van/bus tyres on either side.
  4. Get one end of both edges to line up with the "end" of your rear tyres and leave the remaining length to extend towards the front as far as possible.
  5. At the front end of your 2 edges draw perpendicular line and mark the middle of that line.
  6. Get to your front bumper and remove radar surrounding trim(if you have one).
  7. Locate a very small mirror on the top edge of your radar and measure the distance between the ground and the centre of this mirror.
  8. Get anything emitting laser beam( even a laser pointer is good enough provided you can clamp it on a small tripod).
  9. Position your laser beam emitting device on a tripod at the same height as the centre of your radar mirror, right in the middle of your perpendicular line.
  10. Switch on your laser and point it directly towards the centre of the radar mirror.
  11. Adjust your radar horizontal and vertical screws until you get your laser beam to reflect perfectly back to the very centre of your laser beam source.
  12. Go for a test drive and enjoy your ACC.
  13. If ACC still doesn't work, get your alignment RESET in the BASIC SETTINGS of module 13.
