Flashing Coil Light and Limp Mode [Resolved]

Hi

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

For a few weeks we've had an intermittent flashing yellow/orange coil light coming on which puts the van into limp mode. It was intermittent, until the last ten days when it would come on after driving on even the shortest journeys. Plugged into Carista, which gave fault code VAG 16056, which we could find nothing useful about online. The van went in last week to a VW specialist garage who diagnosed a fault with the oil pressure switch and this was replaced, but the code keeps registering and the light coming on. It's been back in twice now for them to check wiring/electrics, to no avail, and today for an oil service, which now despite there being a new switch, correct oil and perfect oil pressure is still registering the same fault under diagnostics.

The van is fully serviced, had an EGR replacement 2 years ago and cambelt/water pump replacement last September. The garage, and we, are stumped - anyone have any thoughts/tips/experience?

Cheers
Ben

I have no experience for the fault but others may want more info. Engine code etc

would need to see a proper diagnostic readout from VCDS or other. (cant you get this from the Indy garage?)

if it was saying the oil sensor was iffy you would have a much more detailed report.

short to ground,
short to supply
value out of range
implausible signal
current or logged fault,
freeze frame data
number of times logged.
etc etc

failing getting more details from the first garage, i would take to another and get a second opinion.

you dont say what year van?

rodent cable damage is possible.

Also, check for high-pressure hose leaks or a leak in the charge cooler if you have one.

I be got an early Oct 2015 t6 140 euro5, cleared codes last night and it drove almost spot on today a few stutters but no lights so don’t think boost pipe leak would come and go though?
would split her pipe maybe cause this but again would it come and go??

I replaced egr about 18 months ago would it starting to block up maybe cause this?

Yup a leak in the intercooler as I mentioned yesterday, well spotted.

Thanks..When I was checking around engine I wondered why fan was so wet...wrong black oily sludge spraying out of burst intercooler.
new one ordered hopefully all fixed tonight
