Factory Fitted Reverse Camera not working

Hi all. We recently picked up a 67 plate beach. It has a reversing camera fitted, and having received a build sheet from Pauly (many thanks) it looks like this was factory fitted. However when I put the van in reverse I only get the park assist screen coming up. Any ideas how to activate the camera? Looked through the manual but that didn’t help. Does it need coding/re-coding? Many thanks. IMG_2742.webp

If its factory fit then it should just appear on the screen automatically
If the camera or wiring was faulty then the screen would still switch to the camera input but just show a black screen with no image

If the screen isnt doing anything camera related then theres certainly at least some coding problems
Has the headunit been changed ?

Hi Pauly. I believe it’s the factory head unit, but could be that it has been swapped out. I just go to ParkPilot:

The factory RVC doesnt work if the rear doors are opened..... ask me how i know...spent an hour searching for a fault

Thats a good point, I've been caught out with that before

@Dougiep make sure the dash is showing all doors closed, the rear doors are a notoriously small element on the dash image so not always obvious if you dont know what your looking for !

Thanks for the responses guys. Double and triple checks the doors over the weekend and with all physically closed and showing closed on the dash still no reverse camera. Guess I need to get a coding tool. What are the best options? One that would allow me to code a multifunction steering wheel too would be good. Tks!

Hi all. Quick update. The reverse camera came on - albeit briefly once at the weekend, then switched back to park pilot. Guess that means it’s not a coding issue but a loose connection maybe? Any idea where to start? Will a scanner help? Quite happy to get a scanner as would like to disable comfort windows for a start! Tks

I used to have intermittent reverse camera display albeit on an aftermarket installation. Sometimes, going going back to neutral and waiting formthenscreen to reset, then selecting reverse again would fix it. Other times, it was the tailgate not being fully shut, as mentioned above.
I had the inevitable Discover media screen problems at the same time and I did wonder if it was somehow linked.
Since changing the screen I have never had the issue again...

Just to add a little more to this thread, I had another episode of the reverse camera failing this weekend. Strangely, it was after the not so old replacement media screen started playing up on the way home from work.
The sat map started jittering around and the menu bar would keep popping in to view without getting anywhere near it.
On the way home from camping today it did it again and started changing radio stations like before.

It seems my new screen is failing already but it does seem to suggest a relationship with the reverse camera issues.

Just to add to the knowledge base on rear camera not working problems I have just repaired my OEM camera and got good information from the forum as usual. Fault was 'Parkpilot not available' on the head unit and no camera image.
Started with a scan on VCDS.

[1 Fault Found:
6720 - Rear View Camera
B1102 31 [00001001] - No Signal
Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
Freeze Frame:
Fault Priority: 3
Fault Frequency: 1
Reset counter: 121
Mileage: 104502 km
Date: 2025.09.07.
Time: 16:03:01

Voltage terminal 30: 14.3 V]

Checked the 7.5A fuse SC18 which was fine.
Removed the head unit and checked the connections all seemed fine, still not working.
Didn't want to dig into the tailgate as its a full camper so went for cable joins next.
Checked the cable joint in the roof panel just in front of the tailgate seemed fine. No Fix.
Checked the video cable join under the drivers seat and it seemed to be under a bit of stress, disconnect and reconnect FIXED IT. Happy Bunny.
Rearranged and secured the cables a bit and will see if the fix lasts.

Found all the details on cable join locations, fuse, head unit details etc on the forum in various posts. Many thanks to those who helped.
Work that Search function:)

Hi Farnorthsurfer - thanks for the info. My camera is still coming on intermittently so suspect I have a similar problem. Away at the moment but going to follow the steps you’ve laid out when I get back. What tool are you using for VCDS scanning? One of those is on the list of things I need to get hold of. Tks.

also - do you have any photos of the connectors that you checked. A previous owner fitted a subwoofer under the drivers seat so I’m guessing that is where I’ll find the problem😂😂😂😂

Sorry I didnt take photos. The connector you are looking for under the drivers seat is grey/purple plastic housing with very small round black sceened cable. Mine was a right angle connector with a silver metal elbow on it. Its not buried in the loom.
You don't need to do a scan for this job, I have VCDS so I did one anyway. There is a lot of info on VCDS from Ross Tech elsewhere on the forum.
The photo below is from one of the other threads on camera not working.

I have problems with my reverse view camera on my vw touran 1t3 2014/2015 modell.

When in reverse i got black screen, have checked continuity on all 4 leads in the cable to the screen unit, ok.
I have testet with vcds and got fault code: B1102 31.

So i checked the 3 wire that goes to the camera in the boot-lid (backdoor) and when not in reverse i have:
(All 3 wire from car side is white but its colour on the cable from plug to camera in back lid of car and on:)

Black wire - 12 v negative
Red wire - 12 v positive
Yellow - 12 v positive

When i put my car in reverse, i got the same on the black and the red but the yellow then is only 3.7 v positive???

Can anyone please tell me how that happends, it is seperate power leads to the button that open the hatch and my backing light is working fine so i cant understand why that happends.

Would really have that fixed! Second part of my question is,
will the camera take damage if it is powered up all the time my ignition is on, if not, can i can connect the yellow (signal power to the camara on the red so it got powered all the time???)

I have recently bought the car so i havent checked type of bulb in my reverse light, but can it be like this if its used led bulb in reverse light?

Any suggestion is apreciated.

Thanks in advance, regards Kenneth Bratli from Norway
Sorry for my bad english grammer.
