ex-rental with outstanding finance: should I buy?

And thats exactly what the dealer should have done.
I read it as this is a guy that has bought 2 campers on finance and rented them out he is now selling his own vans? Not that he has purchased the van from a previous owner and has left their finance in place these are 2 very different scenarios, if it’s the latter then run a mile if the former and the finance is in his name then no problem

Soooo, a wee update... we went to see the vehicle in situ at the rental workshop and met the owner - it was one of the nicest vans that we have seen and drove really well. We had checked the company out on Companies House prior and discussed the outstanding finance situation (having exchanged a few emails in advance) so he understood my reluctance - I basically said I wouldn't be buying anything with outstanding finance so he agreed to pay it off if I was definitely in a position to purchase. there was a bit of trust involved on both sides but when we went to pick it up he had a letter from the finance co. confirming the finance had been settled and they had discharged their interest, we have a copy of the letter for future reference, and he had carried out an MOT in advance of collection.

so we are now in possession of this beauty! making plans for future trips and also all the potential spending that will be carried out! We previously had an Eriba caravan so used to being in small spaces, planning to get an awning and if anyone knows what connector kit I need for a Thule 4200 to attach a drive-away awning let me know!

thanks for all the advice.

Looks very nice, however I would always advise carrying out a HPi check yourself in situations like this. The check would have showed the finance, finance number and a contract telephone number so you could have made 100% sure any remaining finance had actually been cleared.

Lovely looking van, is it green or grey, as the light bouncing off it looks great. Enjoy 👍

TBF I did carry out an HPI check, that’s how I knew there was outstanding finance - I wasn’t convinced that the finance co would give out information to a 3rd party, but did check the details against the letter.

It’s Iridium Grey, looking forward to the first serious trip out! Waiting on a dog bed to arrive for the back seats so probably next weekend.
