Evening all.

Our business bought an ex-lease T6 panel van (T30) six months back. It was sold with some faults, has ended up in court - hearing in a couple of weeks. I’ve posted about various bits here and there on the forum.

The questionable business which sold the vehicle has recently uploaded blatantly-doctored diagnostics to the court in their defence. All very strange…

The latest mystery is that the RPM-linked whining from the engine has drawn our attention to the power steering fluid reservoir: it has a green lid, but red fluid.

We have a full service history from the leasing company which owned it from new. It is fairly granular, but there is not a single mention of power steering fluid being changed.

I can think of a few reasons that the fluid could be red, but none of them seem very likely:

1. The red ATF has been in there since 2017 and this van is special and doesn’t take green synthetic, or,
2. Someone at the previous company repaired a PS leak, refilled the system with red ATF, but it wasn’t done as part of the lease service contract (potentially a breakdown repair), or,
3. the dodgy people who sold us the van and falsified a diagnostic for court also provided a fake service history?

According to the history we have the battery was replaced 10,000 miles ago - but it was already failing and I swapped it. It also had new clutch, new brakes and cambelt, according to the history

Does option #2 seem the most likely? Can you think of others?

What are you gunning for in court - faults fixed or return of van w/ full refund?

If you have doubts about the veracity of the service history, do you really want to keep the van? And if you want to give the van back, why would you care about the power steering fluid?

Perhaps I'm missing something - have you done conversion work on the van? (sorry, not been following your previous posts).

Well…. Originally we were aiming for a refund but the business that sold us the van refused.

We looked into taking them to court to force a refund, but this would be above the small claims track threshold and therefore could have taken about two years, required a solicitor, expert witness, and cost us more than van is worth – with no guarantee of getting that money back and with no van for 24 months!

In the end just went for having the faults repaired.

It’s our van now Dave.

Small claims? I see - thought you'd gone full nuclear on them.

I can't add anything useful re your fluids question, so I'll just wish you the best for your court case.
