Engine shut down

Bit of an odd one this. Driving along road this morning (from cold start) just pulling onto a traffic island about 200 yards from my house and the van appears to "stall" whilst I'm travelling about 10mph. I was stuck accross two lanes for about 20 seconds while I restarted. Message on dash display said "restart engine manually"! Lucky there was nothing close to me as had no power steering or brake assistance.

I have had this a couple of times in the T6, both myself and my wife have experienced it. I have also had it happen in my 1.9tdi Passat and my 2.0tdi A6 (both manuals). I am not entirely sure what causes the engine to die, maybe something linked to emission control. Modern diesels do not seem to have the same reluctance to stall as the older mechanically injected ones did.
I would agree when it happens unexpectedly, that it is borderline dangerous.

That sounds like the stop start cut in. A few have mentioned that it is cutting in prematurely before wheels have stopped. The message you saw was consistent with start stop.

May well be as far as T6 is concerned, but my 2 previous cars that exhibited similar behaviour were not stop/start, so who knows!

That's the worrying thing. Never had a vehicle "stall" before whilst still physically moving.

I have had stop start activate whilst rolling a 1- 2mph. Makes me look like a right berk that stalled when it wasn't me.

Not had it from cold though.

I use my fan speed selector to start the engine now.

Been out a few times today but have pressed the start stop button to turn that system off. May give dealer a call to see if they can get an error code. Was a bit unnerving

I've had this too a few times, also after stalling asking for manual restart, definitely it's to do with the stop start, you have to be aware of it because it can operate when your'e not too decisive on the controls, it's not as predictable as my 3series Bmw.

I had exactly this on my Audi, maybe the same.

It was tracked down to a fuel flow meter thingy! I will try and find more details if you want. It caused an error VCDS could read.

The part was about £70 and took 2 mins to fit.

Local Audi specialist suggested I replaced that, strangely we found it on eBay and Amazon and he was unable to get the part. Audi said it came as part of the fuel pump!

Anyway that fixed mine and it happened every few weeks as time went by, all at low revs, engine just stopped. Restart and fine until the next time.

Interesting. Not had it happen to mine again since. Keep meaning to drop into dealer for error code reading but not had time the last few weeks.

Just a heads up but it started being every few months, went on for over 2 years, went into Audi and another garage who could find nothing wrong.

It got more frequent and when it happened and I was in rush hour traffic on the A40 and it took 2 goes to restart I took it in to another garage who suggested this option and thankfully it sorted it.

This is happening to me every few weeks. Engine shuts down and "restart engine manually " appears. Always while slowed down taking a corner. Pretty annoying.
