Engine rebuild post snapped cambelt - pics for your enjoyment.

I think it's the cam lobes, which are possibly a shrink fit on to the shaft and could have spun out of position. I'm not sure how you might go about measuring that? Especially if you don't know which lobes have or haven't moved.
You need a phase wheel, V blocks or a lathe and preferably a DTI.
That said without a known good camshaft to compare with or the VW cam data it might involve some guesswork.
 
@joshuaaitken. Where are you based? There's a few of us on here in Gloucestershire and it's always nice to know that there's another expert in the area.
Wouldn’t go that far yet but, I’m at the matchstick factory, feel free to pop down the sheds always got a few transporters in!
 
Exactly the reason we decided to replace. The cam cradle is being made into a necklace by the tech who’s van it is, wearing it to the Xmas party apparently
