Sorry everyone, I am aware this is the 100th thread about knocking. I read all of them and am none the wiser.

Can anyone advise on the knocking noise in this video
, garage cant. It speeds up with rpm. I cant work out if it changes when the clutch is engaged, sometimes I think it does and other times I think I've gone mad and the knock is now just burned into my brain.

Any help appreciated 👏

Maybe the ribbed belt tensioner, it doesn’t sound excessive considering the phone is under the engine.
It’s a commercial diesel engine.

The tapping sound is exactly half crank speed, ie camshaft speed. On the video, it sounds like a ticking tappet, which could be a seized hydraulic tappet, or something has broken like a follower roller bearing has collapsed. Could also be something in the HP diesel pump.

I had a similar noise to this, although a lot quieter, I inadvertently fixed with when I replaced my squealing auxiliary belt tensioner.
The old one was very notchy, I think the bearing had started to collapse.
