Engine Feeling "rough" And Down On Power

For the last few months I've had a feeling my engine was feeling down on power (I've reached down a number of times to check the handbrake wasn't on), and also running a tad rough. The run back from the Alps last weekend confirmed it for me, when it was cruising along but dropping down to 6th to get up hills I know it has gone up in 7th before. Its a 140 DSG Kombi with 68k on the clock. Any thoughts? I was at the dealership yesterday for its MOT and I mentioned it and they put it on the computer but nothing was found. Is there some additive I could use? Is it a prelude of something to come?

I’ve used a diesel additive. Seems to help torque and MPG.

Millers Diesel Power Ecomax.

About £14 for enough for 10 tank fulls.

As I said, It's been to the VW dealers for something else and I mentioned the problem and they put it on the computer and found nothing. It's not due a service for another 8k (long life servicing) but its 10 months since the last service and 17k. I'm actually thinking of servicing it every 10k now that it's out of warranty, to hopefully keep a closer eye on it.

Do you know someone with VCDS to hand? mine was running a bit rough and when plugged in is said the camshaft sensor had a fault, VW changed both that and the MAF sensor and it seems less hesitant...still needs a remap though ...mines the 180 Bi

HI, I had a 140 DSG Kombi and same sort problem as you.
I took it to a local VW specialist in my town and he recommended getting it serviced every 12 months. He does not believe in longer service intervals as the fuel filters, oil filters ect need changing regularly. He serviced mine and what a difference it made, all power back and engine drove sweet again. Not saying this will solve your problem but it did for me.
P.S whereabouts in the Alps were you Skiing/snowboarding ??

Thanks, that's convinced me then. It turns 70k in the next week or so and I'm going to book it in for a service, and then every 10k afterwards. We skied in the Porte du Soleil, in the Feb half term. Fantastic week! Not a cloud in the sky all week, and plenty of snow. The kids are now an age and ability that they can ski with us all day and what a difference that made.

Yes, as I said VW plugged it in and found no problems.

Yes but that's VW, I would find someone who knows what their doing:p

I 2nd that, VW told me the same thing so I got a forum member to check for me and he found the camshaft sensor but vw changed both that and the MAF when I told them

I hope its the remedy for your engine.

We always ski as a family in Les Arcs. My children are now 26 and 25 years old and I can not keep up with my son any more :( I have been skiing 38years and he has been for 18, needless to say, my body is a lot older but it's great when your son comes flying past you shouting keep up on old timer.:)
I'm hoping to get a cheeky one in before the end of the season. Weather in Les Arcs today is grim and the mountain has been closed due to heavy snow and high winds, but will make for some great off-piste when it dies down.

Good luck with the Kombi.
