EML Light on, VCDS scan implies an SCR fault?

So the EML light came on the way home tonight, and a scan of VCDS when I got home gave the following fault:

Thanks. I'm quite sure VW has an update for the engine - which should among other things cure the fault "31103 - SCR NOx Catalyst Bank 1, P20EE 00 [236] - Efficiency too Low".

The update campaign started early 2019 and last T6 engines got the update March this year.

So I would recommend to check if there is update at VW - if so, having the fault registered should give a voucher for a few AdBlue refills.

Anyways, clearing the fault does no harm - except might lose free refills. Up here VW just recently refined their policy - no fault code = no free refills :cry:

Might be worth to note that this was already 4th time ("Fault Frequency: 4") when the fault occurred - so was this first time when it surfaced as EML light?

Thank you, I'll speak to VW tomorrow, it was last serviced in March and final warranty work in May and no updates were applied then!

I did reset the EML when it first happened in January, but today is the first time the light has come back on. I'm also kicking myself as the van is now just out of warranty...

@T6Paul What was the outcome of this please? I had my EML come on after a full tank and 20 miles down the M5, no noticeable difference in engine performance. I got myself an OBDII scanner and read code P20EE, no other codes. I've read some reports that say that this occurred when fuel filler cap wasn't closed correctly!
I guess there are quite a few conditions which can cause this, but I'm interested in your result and any info on updates applied (did they make a difference?)

Thanks for the update @T6Paul, I hope you get this resolved. I do wonder if the sensors on modern vehicles are just too sensitive?

Hi, I have had numerous P20EE and EML's. MY2019 150 DSG. VW replaced the SCR injector, but fault returned. They recently changed #3 glow plug (sensor) - no recurrence yet, but only done 100 miles since due to covid.
 
See my thread today, had a couple of Nox sensor EML activations. Mine is a 2019 T28 102. Do I read that there is a software update which will cure it ?
 
I’ve had an ongoing issue with P20EE since December 2019.
I’ve had six EMLs up over 13000 miles. Been in the garage six times for 52 days total.
Software update done
New NOx sensor
New inlet manifold
Cylinder no.3 glowplug chamber cleaned out (there’s a pressure sensor in there)
I still get regular pending p20ee codes so just waiting for the next time..........
 
Which info tells you which software is loaded?
These below (bolded) are the main bits that identify the current software load (copy from @T6Paul 's post above):

I had the EML come on last week, just before I was filling up, so I put shell power in instead of the normal saver file and added some Redex. The light has now gone out - most of my miles are motorway.

I now have VCDS (thanks to @sippe ) and the fault code showing was 31103 as above. Looking at the data it seems it might not have had the any updates (Component R4 2.0L TDI H 02 4027). It also shows the frequency being 21!

As the light went out of its own accord would you leave doing anything and see if it re appears? I didn't clear the fault code.

If it helps, I have had 7 EML's (Emissions light - not coil light) on my 2019 MY 150 DSG, and only done 5000 miles. The light never resets itself. The code is the P20EE. VW have reset the fault code 5 times, and twice more after replacing the SCR Injector valve and then 1000 miles later the #3 glow plug / sensor. The light has just come on again after only 230 miles since VW last attempt. Very frustrating.
 
Well over 1000 miles since the last EML encounter and all seems to be running fine now (touches wood). Also the regens seem better (i.e. complete quicker and less obvious) not sure if that is related?..

Get it logged with VW Customer Care. I got a years extra warranty from dealer and a voucher from VW CC.
The last time I got an eml it self cleared before I took it to the garage after about 200 miles.

Thanks. Mines out of warranty now - only bought it late Sept and it ran out in Oct, so done minimal miles really but like you its cleared the EML light itself.

I can't find any software with revision "4027". Unless it's "4047" (engine CXHA 04L.906.056.KA) could you please post full scan of engine + transmission (module 02) + AWD (module 22) + beginning of the VIN (the first 12 digits). EDIT:typo

Yes, it can be seen under Advanced ID - Flash Status, 0/1/1 would be as from factory.
