EML: Intake Manifold Runner position sensor/switch circuit range/performance

Yeah - I am surprised how much of a difference it's made to the van having it swapped

I usually do one slow commute of 15 miles a week, then one steady 60mph return trip of around 100-120 miles at the weekend and apparently I'm not working the engine hard enough to prevent this build up
At 57K miles it’s quite likely it’s a jammed / leaking EGR valve that is constantly passing exhaust gases into the induction.

Back to this thread, does anyone know how you can definitively know if its the actuator arm or the whole manifold without getting bent double?
19 Plate T6 32 150 PS code P2015 doesn't seem to regen. thanks!

Only thing you can do is check the vacuum supply to the valve is ok.
Then using a mitivac, check the valve can hold vacuum and see if the arm moves.

Realistically, the issue will be the manifold runner mechanism itself - the runner wears, which means that the flaps don't move enough.

Well...mine has just thrown this fault (P201500 and P2015), and we're due to drive to the Alps on Friday (Boxing Day).

2019 T6 206, 50,300 miles. I've owned it since it was a year old and 21,900 miles. We really only do long journeys. Last big drive was 200 miles towing a trailer/car

We have full VW All-in warranty and breakdown.

1. VW Breakdown (AA) say that as it's only an orange warning light it's fine to drive, and if it breaks down they'll do something then (we will probably be in France by then!). They said that until then, it's not broken down and they are not a preventative service.

2. Breeze VW Portsmouth (we've used them since 2020 and I'm very happy with their service etc ). say they're just too busy in the run up to Christmas, and if it is a new manifold, they definitely would not be able to get that sorted before we leave.

What to do?

a) Cancel family ski trip; nobody wants to break down in France on a motorway on Boxing Day (or new years day when we return!)
b) Take the van to Breeze and have them tell VW Breakdown that the van has broken down, and see if VW will provide a replacement vehicle
c) Risk it; 1400 mile round-trip

I've just reset the fault code on Carista and I'll get some miles on it today to see if it recurs. I'm still not sure if it makes the "risk it" option better or worse if it doesn't recur!

What's the implication of driving it with the fault? Could it progress to a red warning light within the 1400 miles? Will it prevent DPF region for example which would limit the miles we'd be able to run...

Any help/suggestions gratefully received.

I had the same fault and drove with my light on for a good few months (maybe even 6) before I got the manifold replaced without any problems.
The van drove normally and when I replaced the manifold there was no other issues as a result.
I think you’ll be fine to go on your trip.

Wow, thanks...that's GREAT to know.

I believe the flat fail open, so as long as you can get your hands on the flap shaft (pardon me) to ensure it’s fully open, it should be fine to drive, I doubt you’d get a DPF regen with the EML light on as the flaps are related to the emissions control, so do go too long with the fault or the problem might cause other much more expensive problems like turbo failure

Any tips on how to get to the flap shaft to check?
Now I’ve reset the fault and EML is off, I’ll check soot level on Carista and force a regen so at least I’m maximising my mileage.

I've just that code pop up on my 2017 2ltr 204 been sat over xmas so I've cleared the fault and put some dipitane in it and gave it a blast in low gears high revs for a few motorway miles could be an expensive garage visit as i need a big service (cambelt) and front discs and pads fingers crossed its not

Ok back from the garage after some painful wallet surgery :(

Had the manifold replaced and asked them to keep hold of it so I could see it as they mentioned it was sooted up

This is a 2019 57k mile manifold after 5 years

Just driven back home and it immediately feels a more peppy drive with the throttle response being far quicker and smoother, but I'm shocked at how clogged up it's got especially only using Vpower which I thought would clean this crud out as it went

Garages only suggestion to help prevent this building up again was a hot run doing 70 in 4th gear for 20 mins a week
Hi, I believe I have the exact same problem, can I be cheeky and ask what sort of cost it was to replace, many thanks Andy.

The part was £361.20 + VAT then 8 (eight) hours labour PLUS an Aircon re-gas

I paid £1500 all in with Labour at £100 per hour at ADS in Preston

Many thanks for this, it's an expensive one , i'm not 100% sure if it is the manifold, i have the same error code though and from what i've read from others it's looking more likely to be the cause of the problem. Thanks

Yeah - I was less than thrilled when they gave me the quote, but looking at the gunk in the part they removed I was comforted that it was the right thing to do

I believe you can have the inlet manifold flaps / sensor mapped out, has anyone had this done and what are the possible problems? Thanks Andy.
