EGR replacement cost.

As somebody who was born in the 1960’s I can remember when there were very few cars in the rural areas but you could smell them 10 mins after they’d passed. Be careful what you wish for, we’d all be on oxygen masks if there wasn’t change.

Oh, I was less concerned about what some bureaucrat thinks about my car and more the mechanical considerations.
Ill never preach or tell someone else what to do with their vehicle, but having unsuccessfully given CPR to a 13 year old girl who had a severe asthma attack brought on by traffic pollution I'd never do that myself.

Aside from the poor lasses passing, it was horrible for me. I had to have counselling for the psychological effects (failing to save a child's life despite your damndest efforts has horrible effect on the psyche, leaving you feeling like a worthless failure) and I ended up spending a lot of money to move because I couldn't bear walking past the scene again (it was a neighbours child id tried to save.)

If I couldn't afford to repair my van properly when it broke id have bought something else that I could maintain properly without having to selfishly endanger others. Let's hope the tight buggers that think theyre clever never have to go though what that poor girl did.

Had my EGR valve & cooler done about a month ago at a local independent garage. I wanted a comparable one fitted which worked out £450 all in. Unfortunately it didn’t fit & they had to get a genuine part @ £570 as we were going away, bloody VW wouldn’t guarantee it unless they changed the pipes too at £250 extra. I didn’t bother & the pipes were fine according to the garage. Ended up about £850. Old valve has been in the ultrasonic bath at work for a few days and I’ll give it a good flushing tomorrow. Whether it’ll ever get refitted I don’t know.
