EGR issue (Confirmed) P0401 - Help!

Just checked the documents we got with the van when we bought it, EGR was replaced 2 years ago at 55k miles due to leak - done less than 15k miles since then!!!!
Now been suggested that it could be the turbo actuator gone up the fritz…..
Need to get someone to run a proper VW diagnostic when the fault occurs - flashing light as opposed to solid light = intermittent? Just about at the end of my tether now
Yeah, that's absolutely not right and ridiculous given the mileage.

Van has just had a new EGR fitted. My original one (from factory) was in a dire condition apparently, price for parts and fitting was well over £1k in the end so it better make a difference!!

They replaced all tubes, pipes etc. and the coolant header tank - as it had gel bags in the tank, which could have caused blockages to the EGR/coolant system apparently.... They're a pretty reputable local indy (been around since the 1960's) with all the latest kit, but it feels like it was a lot more expensive than it should have been! Have used before with no issues, so have to trust it for now - have a 12 month warranty on all the parts.

Had the van serviced in March, last service at VW using the service package that came with the van. While it was in they advised of a software update/recall. The invoice has this as “23DV S-EGR Correction recall”. So, less than 500 miles driven since the service and the EML light has been on 4 times now. No apparent problems, not going into limp mode etc. Spoke with the dealer, VW Manchester, and the van is booked in tomorrow morning for them to check. Does anybody have any experience of this update?

Still had nobody respond to my fault - P0402, EGR excessive flow.....
Getting ridiculous now - off to yet another VW specialist for more exploratory checks

Thanks for the response, getting ready to try witchcraft and the ouija board next!
Replaced the EGR valve and associated pipes, all of the pipes have been pressure (and smoke) tested, but the error keeps returning. Van will happily run at 80mph all day long, but seems to have lost the use of the turbo, but only when the error light appears, otherwise runs like a dream. All of the posts I have read on here, plus most of the ones on your links above, seem to be pointing to a blocked (insufficient) flow which is the opposite of my problem...
Will see what the next diagnostic throws up - I am leaving all of the error and code messages on the van as evidence that I'm not going crazy!
And I thought Jags were complicated!
Cheers
