Dynavin D9 head unit.

After much deliberation I finally decided to go for the Dynavin D9 9” head unit for my T6.1. I've had the car play crackle for a long time now but couldn’t justify £1200 + for an alpine! So ordered it directly from Dynavin in Germany-the head unit cost around £300 with the vat and shipping charges + there will be another £100 to activate the CarPlay after the 1 month free trial. It seems to be a good solid unit and installation was reasonably straightforward. You get most of the leads you need and there’s no canbus boxes or retention leads-it’s all built in to the head unit. It comes as a separate main unit and screen and the instructions tell you to assemble them to install it but it wouldn’t fit like this so I fitted the main unit in first and then clipped the screen in afterwards. Apart from that fitting was fine. In use it’s a really nice unit- sounds lovely and boots up really quickly. Also I prefer the look of this over the floating screen type. If anyone has any questions I am happy to try to help. Gonna post some pictures in a minute.

Yes. So far I am really pleased with it. All menu’s and sos are retained. Factory reverse camera is better than before- the lines now bend with the steering. The only thing not retained are the 2usb ports. I will have to activate CarPlay after the trial period so I will keep you posted on how it’s going.

These look great, thank you for the report. Any idea what the difference is between the D9 and D9 Flex is, can't figure it out ....

The flex is where you buy the basic unit and then just pay for the add on’s that you want. I just wanted the zlink that gives you car play but you can also have navigation and the android App Store. You get a one month trial and the purchase an access code for what you need. (CarPlay is 99euro ). Hope this makes sense

Gotcha thank you, found it now at the bottom of this page:

Just a quick update- I have now activated the zlink (CarPlay) with no issues. You just enter the serial number of your unit, pay the money (99euro - just over£90 ) and you immediately get a code to enter and it’s all done! Still really happy with this. Sounds great easy to use and I’ve done some long journeys now with no problems.

I have had the older D8 Flex in my T6 for a few years now and am fairly happy with it. I have a few gripes however.

- people can't hear me very well when they call me, despite trying a few different microphones. When I'm not in the van, I get envious when others call me on my phone from their vans with no background noise and clear speech.
- the T6 version puts the screen at an angle that is hard to read in certain sunny situations (more of a problem in the south of France then the UK maybe)
- you have to manually load the radio station logos if you want to see them on your presets

Otherwise the screen looks good, the carplay seems to work well, although occasionally it doesn't want to connect, so I manually switch off and on the carplay setting on my iphone.

The new D9 is visually identical, but it seems to have more power for sound, so may upgrade to that one at some point.

@Tredder76 I've had no complaints about phone call quality with mine- I used the microphone supplied with it and stuck it on the steering column cover as suggested. It still seemed to work fine after it came unstuck and was just dangling down!! Mines aT6.1 and I think the angle is slightly different so I’ve had no problems with glare. I only really use CarPlay which has been spot on so can’t really comment on station logos.
You need to be careful what version of the d9 you buy I bought directly from Germany and got the d9 flex which was 65 watts i think but the one offered by dynavin uk was much lower output and a lot more money!

Ah interesting. I definitely bought directly with them, and the Flex versions are the ones to choose in my view.
There are a number of different versions for the T6 (shapes and spec), I have the 9" screen, D8 version of this: 9-inch Android Car Radio D9-T6 Premium Flex for VW T6
Comes with a new dash surround. Requires some mods to fit, but otherwise integrates well.
I'm liking the 10.1 version though, looks like it might be better with regards to glare : 10.1-inch Android Car Radio D9-V10W Premium Flex for VW | Skoda | Seat

Does it work with the steering wheel buttons and come up at all on the dash display?

To be honest I'm pretty much at the same point. Now given up any hope of VW sorting the crap car play sound on iTunes. I was deciding between one of the OEM upgrades and the Alpine one.
However if this retains all the steering wheel button functionality and I can work out a way to power the USB-C sockets for charging it could be the winner.

@PartakePepsi yes. It does work with the steering wheel controls and the dash display is the same as the original head unit.
@Skyliner33 It retains all the original functions and menus including steering wheel. As for the usb ports I removed the original usb plugs/pcb and fitted the leads that came with it into the hole. It’s a bit bodgy at the moment but I’m planning to make something a bit more refined! I m quite busy tomorrow but will post some pics over the weekend.
