DSG Leak?

Hi All,

I posted recently thinking I had a leak from a driveshaft , but put it down to being poor cleansing of where the fuel filter had spilt whist servicing.

Well, post holiday I cleaned the area in question and it looks like I have some kind of leak. I’m thinking it’s off the DSG, more of a weap than heavy leak (it’s not a drip)

When driving after a short 10 min drive there’s nothing. But If I do 40 mins plus the gear box is slightly damp.

When I bought the van from VW 18 months ago, there was a DSG leak that they fixed. I’m wondering if the leak is from where they fixed before? Apparently they replaced a seal previously which meant them dropping the box.

Does this look like the kind of leak that’s well documented or could it be something else? I believe having a later T6 DSG that issue was resolved.

Keen to hear thoughts.

you will need to clean the area with brake clean and test drive.

to see where its coming from.

if DSG it could be:

drive shaft seal,
oil cooler seal,
case crack,
other.

if else where, and coming from the bell-housing join - possible rear main crankshaft seal.

Thanks Dell,

Already done a clean and I have a rough area of where it looks to be coming down from.

It’s not an obvious source, so I think it needs to go into a specialist for a look.

i had DSG leak, - crack in the casing (there is a TPI for it)

was covered under ALL-IN - NEW DSG BOX

Hoping it’s not that for me, the TPI looks to only be for the 204, and I’m a 150.

Looking at where it’s coming from it’s hopefully the oil cooler seal. When looking from the top you can see a damp patch too.

It’s all above my skillset so I’ll get it to the Indy for an inspection.

All the T6 vans use the same DSG gearbox.

The DSG TPI covers a crack in the casting.that causes a oil leak.

The cooler has two O ring seals that are to be replaced if the cooler is removed.

Keep us posted.

Wasn’t aware of that and it’s made me feel a little better!

Will report back.

Reporting back.

Cleaned the oil off with brake cleaner, reset the mileage and drove 200 miles.

Popped the under tray off and the leaks found its way back to the bottom of the box. Not dripping just lightly damp. I tried to look for the leak on the drive with it cleaned off and the box running, but nothing showed up.

Spent some time under the van looking at the DSG, nothing around the top of the box and the filter housing. But damp still under the Oil Cooler. As you look at the front of the gear box from the front of the van the leak looks to run down the left hand side of the Mechatronics.

I suspected that the leak is the Oil Cooler, but the pipes in and out of this are dry underneath where the clamps are, so I’m saying this is unlikely to be the seals.

So I don’t know now if the Mechatronics might have a leak, or if the oil coolers got a leak from the unit itself. Or still something else.

(Lastly, can’t see any signs of a leak from the bell housing that I’ve been able to get sight of).

I did speak to Davtech this morning about a suspension upgrade, and he’s possibly willing to take this job on to investigate and fix, so at least I can get a decent set of eyes on it.
