Losing coolant no leak - EGR damp

Hi, just looking for advice please…

Have been losing coolant for a while now. Had service done a couple of months ago and they leak tested but couldn’t see anything obvious.

Seems to be getting worse, needing a top up of coolant (dashboard message) after 300 miles.

Have mayo under oil filler cap and a bit of smoke/steam. Nothing on dipstick though.

I took the front Egr pipe off and it wasn’t full of water like I’ve seen on others. But I stuck my finger in and it is definitely feeling ‘damp’ inside.

So am assuming that my EGR is dead/dying? Found a febi one at Euros for about £600. Are febi decent? I’ll phone my usual VW specialist parts place tomorrow and see what they have. GSF have an Elstock for £440… never heard of them so assuming too cheap? Anyone got any other options or recommendations for a decent part?

Also, will I be causing damage if I continue using the van? Or should I limit mileage until it’s fixed?

It’s a 66 reg ex RAC van 150 with DSG and about 143k on the clock.

It could end up writing the engine off if it leaks enough to hydro lock the engine and you won’t know that until you turn the key to start it.

My advice is don’t go cheap, depending on the model Pierburg supply VW, same unit without the VW label.
