Dreaded oil pressure switches

So was there ever a solution found to this problem, I've had both pressure switches changed 5 months ago, warning lights went away. Problem just returned!

Seems to come back when the temperature drops. I’ve had them both changed plus the wet belt in the oil pump. See how it goes over the winter now.

Is it when the temperature drops or after a certain interval? Mine started playing up originally in May when it was warm?

Also you could to test the renewed components using engine's built-in diagnostics? Or perhaps VW already did that? Were the replaced parts VW OEM?

@mmi I've had this same issue. I have replaced the low pressure switch twice so now it has returned again i was thinking of changing the oil and filter but before that wanted to check the pump/valve were ok. I've attached the log. Any chance you'd mind giving your thoughts on it?

Based on the logs it seems it's either
a) the valve doesn't respond correctly = raise oil pressure, or
b) oil pressure (high) switch doesn't see elevated pressure
c) oil pump itself doesn't produce elevated oil pressure

Log of today - high oil pressure (green=400) was registered only on the 2nd revving/command (dark blue)

Possibly even slightly delayed response...

Log of December 6th - perfect response on all three revvings

Log of December 6th - looks good - oil pressure rises when commanded

Well, didn't happen at 40 seconds, perhaps because of decreasing revs

A snippet of a Log of November 17th - ok

PS. All the above were in the log file - obviously you had used always the same (default) file for storage. Thanks for those - interesting to see how the issue developed :geek:

Great stuff..but what is the actual conclusion..we all appear to share the same fault issues but with differing success levels re resolution. I've done switches, fault went away for 4 months. Oil regulating valve, no change whatsoever. Getting to a point where I'm not willing to keep throwing money at possible solutions with no guarantee 😪

@mmi you’re a legend as always. Much appreciated 🙌🏼

Is it worth also capturing oil temperature, as that may also have an impact on opening and closing the high/low pressure switches?
It appears from the logs it was done with a cold engine, and dumping oil pressure as the revs increase. Is that correct?

It would be good if it was also possible to capture actual oil pressure as well but couldn't see that as soemthing available to capture?

Has anybody with oil pressure issues done an oil analysis to check for soot levels?
VW are apparently using solenoid activated spool valves, these work well in a clean medium, they definitely don’t work well in a contaminated medium.

For me I’m thinking or replacing the high pressure sensor then re assessing. I may then do an oil change and also use 0w/30. If problem returns change the regulator valve. Process of elimination starting with the cheapest option 🤣

Well, between the lines it implies to actually measure the oil pressure - traditional way to rule out any of the suggested components. Alternatively just throw in new parts.

By the way, as low pressure switch is always "closed" when engine is running - I would expect low oil pressure switch failing would raise alarm of low oil pressure on dash.

Yes did those... This process of elimination is very frustrating and expensive.. changing the pressure switches gets rid of the problem temporarily...so what's happening exactly during that period? Are the switches continually failing?
