Dometic crx50 fault

I have a dometic crx50 fridge fitted in my t6, it's 3 years old and only really been used a few times. It seems to have developed a fault, I turn it on (running off the leisure battery) and the compressor etc starts up, after a few minutes it stops, if I open the door there are no lights on at all as if there is no power to it, I have checked all connections and checked that there is sufficient voltage at the positive terminal. If I turn it off for 10 minutes it's starts and does the exact same again. Anyone had anything similar or able to suggest a solution?

What voltage do you have on the input when it stops working ?

Pete

Sounds like your leisure battery is sound, but where are you measuring that voltage ?

Pete

Accross the positive and negative terminals on the back of the fridge

I also tested across the positive and another ground on the van and got the same results

Most fridge issues are caused by low voltage (battery knackered or poor connection), but yours sounds different.
Are there literally no lights on at all on the internal control panel when it stops ?

Pete

No, nothing. I've read that there should be a flashing red light if there is a low voltage issue. Its like there is no power to it at all, but there is.

It seems a strange fault and not 1 I have come across before.
To be 100% sure we would remove and bench test the fridge with a good battery and new connections.

Does it do the same with the engine running or on EHU with the LB charging?

Sounds like the battery can’t take the electrical load, just measuring the voltage is no guarantee of the battery condition.

Unfortunately I don't have another leisure battery to check like this.

I do have the MPS 35 mains adapter that I haven't used yet, I will pick up some cable and try via the mains

Would the fact that it does the same when the charger is on not prove it's not the battery?

If the battery is knackered it won’t be taking a charge. I guess it depends on how amps output the charger is capable of.
If you are not going to go the a battery specialist for a load test of the leisure battery try connecting another load similar to the fridge current draw and see if it copes.

Yes that would do it, as it will still only give a 12v supply

Hi there, my crx50 fridge is doing exactly the same thing, did you find out what was wrong with it? Cheers

Any luck finding a solution as mine is doing the same?

Hi,
I had this problem with my fridge when it was new due to power surges off the MPS 35 which outputs 24v not 12v. The fridge control box has a voltage reducing circuit that is supposed to reduce the input voltage to the 12v required, however this does not always operate fast enough and allows excess voltage in to the control box and basically damages the circuit board inside. I had the control box replaced twice and eventually a replacement fridge, when I fitted the replacement fridge I removed the MPS35 and run the fridge purely off the 12v leisure circuit in my van ( no problems for 3 years since). I was informed by a Dometic engineer one way to check if the control box is faulty is to check that the condenser cooling fan is running on compressor power up as this is the first component to burnout with excessive voltage.
Hope this helps you look at areas where your problem might be found.
regards D

Many thanks for all the info, the fan is kicking in with the compressor when you initially connect it up bit soon all cuts out a few seconds later, there is also a flashing red light on the pcb board that goes off when the compressor randomly starts.
I will take the whole unit to a repair station near me and give them your info.
Thank you
