im busy kitting out my van, leisure battery. Orian DC/DC charger all in place but im unsure if my van has a smart alternator as my main battery is reading around 14.4 even when driving and not fluctuating ? My van is a 2021 T28 highline with auto stop/start and ad blue . Can anyone help me out here ?

Yes it does have a smart alternator.

Reckon so. I've got a cig lighter plug in volt meter thing that plugs in on the dash, it's fascinating watching the voltage go up and down.

Get yourself a cig’ lighter USB outlet with a voltage display (loads on amazon). You’ll be able to see the voltage fluctuate as you’re driving.

Probably threads on this - what is the benefit of a smart alternator / shunt - sounds like it is over complicating things to me.

It's done to improve fuel efficiency and lower emissions by reducing engine load when charging isn't needed and by using re-gen braking to capture energy when slowing down.

Thanks Frigo110 for super quick response.

Makes sense.

if fuel efficiency (aka saving money) was a priority I probably should not have bought a T6 🤣

But yes probably good for the planet - so positive thing.
