Diesel leak under the bonnet - pipe split or separated? (Skoda TDI)

Hoping someone can help, this is not a fault on my van but on our 2012 Skoda Yeti which uses the VAG Tdi engine.

Whilst driving in Europe where it has been super cold, yesterday I noticed the fuel gauge going down (had just filled up) and after stopping saw diesel pouring out under the bonnet..!

After popping the engine cover of I have found the following pipe has detached or come apart.

Can anyone help explain what has happened or caused this?

Is it a normal wear and tear item or an indication of another fault / issue?

Any help really appreciated as we are a long way from home and at the mercy of local garages who do not speak English...

That is the leak off return from the injectors. It looks like a one way valve allowing fuel to return to the pump from the injectors. Have you had any work done recently that could have disturbed it? I think that will be a dealer only part or from a breakers yard

Thanks @PhillH - I just went back to the garage and they have replaced that complete pipe and washed the engine bay from all the diesel.

I have just driven the car for about 20 miles to check its ok and it seems to be running perfectly, but... it is using a LOT of diesel, about an 1/8th of a tank over that 20 miles.

The range started at 450 miles but after returning it says 325 miles. The car usually sips fuel so I think something else may be wrong and the actual cause of that pipe failing..?

Everything highlighted has been replaced.

The part circled was missing from my pipes, I guess it cracked and fell off, allowing the pipe to separate

Take your battery off (positive lead) and then reconnect it.

Newer Vag stuff doesn't like fuel being syphoned, doesn't register correctly. So well worth trying in this situation to see if that corrects the range etc.

You'll have to do a 'lock to lock' of the steering to reset any warnings on the dash.

Thanks @Phil_j89 - disconnected the battery for 30 minutes, and all is well with the fuel gauge.

When I reconnected it read half a tank, yesterday it was showing 3/4 but going down really quickly.

Have driven the car for a few hours today and the fuel level has slightly reduced as expected.

(All ABS errors disappeared once i drove up the road as you suggested)
