Dab Aerial - Question For The Hive...

Hello,
So we didnt have a DAB radio, and i've added this in from absolut. Works great but the reception from the glass stick on internal aerial isnt great and drops out alot.

I have been thinking to change this, but im stuck - i had a thread but cant find it where i asked about this before..

I have an SCA poptop so i cant think how to get a roof mounted one.

i have seen at dabonwheels that they do glass mounted exterior ones - and i was tempted to fir this up high ust off centre on the windscreen - avoiding obvs the wipers path. Would this be effective?

Any ideas/experiences?

From my limited knowledge roof mounted one work best off metal to 'bounce' signal and improve reception. But could be wrong

in my other post i think it was @Absolut5 that mentioned the one they were selling doesnt need a ground plane to function.. but im trying to find a position that works and keeps my height low...i'd like to be able to keep the 2m..

does the vw original one work well?

Mirror ones are ok for national stations, ie Radio 1,2,3,4 but everything else it will struggle when moving

Many have purchase roof ones and fitted to pop tops and get great reception, just check with the pop top manufacture how thick the roof is

I've had an external glass mount aerial on my golf since 2004. Works great. Strong signal, holds well when on the move and keeps the switch from dab to FM when it has to. Internals usually not good for a vehicle moving around. My van has an internal and I loose signal more than I like. Really annoying as I like the radio. Just means I use the SD slot or iPod a lot more.

Ah ok thanks @Sabre, could try that one then! @Absolut5 what types do you have? Beesting and sharkfin? I was wondering on the overall dimensions? If the beesting can be undone for going under barriers etc I don't mind doing that. Our roof is 6mm I think (just drilled it recently for solar cables) height is kinda important..

Hey @scotia,
Most of the beesting aerials can be removed. I do unscrew mine on the golf before going into the carwash although they are fairly robust. It's better to have the option. Just make sure it can unscrew as some of the lower cost options are fixed.
