CXEC engine?

Hi,

I'm new to the Forum and was looking for advice and price (any rough guesstimates are appreciated at this point) with regard to either getting a reconditioned or repaired & rebuilt CXEC engine, for a 2019 VW Caravelle 2.0 TDi 199. (c 79,000 miles)

I haven't bought it yet, the current owner has said the Oil pump went and seized the engine. (I've done the math on the purchase price and potential final value, so it's just the middle part that I could do with some help with, thanks)

I have been searching the threads and noticed that sometimes it could be something else that has led to this happening, like a blocked DPF, faulty turbo etc?
The bottom line is, if it's fairly straightforward, then I would consider buying it, but if it has the potential to be a money pit, then I'll walk away.

I see recon CXEC engines from Germany from £1300+ delivery, but are there import charges/taxes also to be paid? I've also enquired at a few garages in the London area, who would prefer to inspect it 1st.
Also UK engine recons etc, from c£2500+

A worst case scenario would be very much appreciated folks, thank you.

Thankfully I have never looked into replacing an engine however from what ever I have seen in the forum relating to CXEBs, I think you are missing a zero on the end.

I would walk away from this situation.

Yes, the more I read, the more it adds to my concern. It's a shame as well, as there's a lot of car for the cash, however, a sore head is not something I would take on knowingly!

One of the garages I called asked how much I was buying it for..."so he knows I am not paying too much". IMO- basically so he knows how much he can charge me up to. lolsa

If it was really cheap and I was personally doing all of the work so had no labour costs it may be a good buy, however I'd also expect oil starved turbos to be a problem at £2500+

Some of the cars out there with reliability issues, Rx8s, some Porsches etc the advice is to buy a broken one and then fix it as its the best way to get a good one.

As far as we know the CXEC to date is reliable so if you aren't doing the work just buy one of those.

That's what drew my attention, but the fact it's not already sold, added to the fact I am c400 miles away from where its at, plus the potential of an engine, turbos, possible DPF... and on an on, doesn't make it sound as appealing anymore.

I contacted some garages close to where its at, to get it taken there and fixed, (it was either that or get it towed up here at a fine cost too) but they appear on the surface to be no-committal, understandably by the looks of it now, as nobody would really know the damage until they check or strip it down, yes?

I'm losing interest, its a shame, as it's a lovely vehicle.

Maybe go for a complete engine and electrics change if you have the available dollar. Like a RS3 petrol engine. Now that would be fun and has been done before!

If it was a case of chucking £5000 at it and earning £20,000 back, the seller would be doing it.
